How much change in point of impact can I expect going from a zero at 200 yards and 1400 feet to 10000 feet?? Anybody actually shoot a target to see?? Will be using a 7MM remington magnum and 150 grain bullet @ 3030 ft/sec

Just punch those numbers into a ballistics calc and you'll have your answer. probably not much change at 200yds but i honestly dont know.

I think his question is a valid one, because I wondered the same thing. The ballistics apps show what the bullet drop is when sighted at 200 yards, but it does not take into consideration IF you sight in at sea level (like me), you will know the bullet drop out to 600 yards by looking at the chart. BUT if you sight in at sea level, and print the chart, then travel to 10,000 feet like I do, what ballistic app is there to find out what the difference will be at that altitude without firing a shot? If you sight in at 10,000 ft and print the bullet drop chart, it might not vary much from the same drop on the chart when you printed it for sea level sight in, but if you sight in at sea level then travel to 10,000 I am thinking the drop will be greater without re-sighting at 10,000. Is there an app that shows what the drop will be at 10,000 feet if you sight in at sea level, or 1400 feet as tom338 asks?

There are lots of on-line ballistic charts where you can examine changes in weather and elevation. Also. lots of phone apps, the one I use the most is Shooter.

Here are some #'s sighted in at 200 yards.

At 1400' poi at 100 will be +1.43

A 10,000" poi at 100 will be +1.34

At 120 yards at 10,000' poi will be same as 1400' poi.

These #s were bases on 150gr. Nosler BT

or to take that a little further

So thats about 3/32nd of an inch at 100 yards

So don't worry about it

Tjay, can you tell me your source of info so I can run the numbers for my loads on a couple different rifles?

I really like the Nikon SpotOn app for my phone. Paired with the BDC reticle scope it is pretty sweet!

It has options for altitude, barometer and many other variables.

Be careful up there! Even as a mountain runner 10k elevation tends to make me sick :(

Think about the temp change also. I have seen rounds get really cold and shoot totally different after. Keep em in your pocket and keep em warm. Elevation will affect the point of impact but not greatly. We regularly take our mountain rifles to Texas to hunt hogs with no issues. That is going from 7220 ft down to 400 ft elevation.

I Live at roughly 2300 feet elevation, and I killed an elk a few years ago at 9400 feet. Rifle( 30-06 pre-64 M70) was sighted in @ 3 inches high at 100 yards, and I saw no change in POI.
