I have only used the 16x42 HDX, and just purchased the 10x30 HDX so I don't have to fight with my son for them when we're out hunting. I haven't put those through the paces yet, but the 10's are legitimately able to glass from the truck moving from the highway. Not so much on bumpy dirt roads...
+1 for "calculated BC's" being nearly worthless compared to ponying up for Applied Ballistics custom curves. Here's my rationale:
You can always just use muzzle velocity and measured drop out to distance to fit your BC to empirical data. You should be doing this anyway. I'd trust measured...
My LRX was great with a brake from arrowhead. It was bored over since some of the brakes were too tight and interfered with the bullet to my understanding.
In NM we serve chile. You go to Texas for chilli, chili, chilley or whatever the heck the rest of you are talking about.
If I was a moderator here confusing the two is an instant ban.
"Proper" rifle break-in is largely a myth and will not impact the accuracy of a rifle. My guess is that most CA rifles shoot fine, but a LARGE percentage of them of lemons (with respect to other manufacturers).
I'm a man of principal that dies on the smallest of hills. My hatred of these binos doesn't come close to my hatred of Bergara or Fierce rifles though :ROFLMAO:
But seriously, if anyone searches my post history they'll see me singing high praises of the 2nd gen Zulu6 HDX - just trying to help...
Did you actually test them side by side at a far field target? The 16 pros I have right now are easily the worst of the 3 pro models I have in my possession. Given the difference in quality between the 18’s perhaps you got a good pair of 16x50’s.
I’d love for others to post up comparison images.
Do yourself a favor and do not try the 16x42 HDX. You will cry.
The omniscan sucks compared to scan and target lock modes on the gen 2’s. Image is likely better too except beyond legal shooting light.
Got my 18x50 HDX Pro's back from Sig with a note that they're amazing and I'm an idiot. Grabbed another set of 18x50 HDX Pro's from Sportsman's, as well as the new 16x50 HDX Pro's to compare against my 16x42's.
Bottom line - only the 18x50 pair that I got from Sportsman's could be imagined to...
My hunting partner has Swaro BTX and the new NL’s. Unless we’re glassing a single spot for more than an hour, I have zero desire to use traditional “alpha” glass anymore. The gen 2 are just that quick and easy to deploy that I have no desire to constantly lug around tripods and take 5 minutes to...
Sorry - my data is buried in my cross post. Key points:
I've had my 16x42's for about a year and love them, ranted and raved. Excited about the improved glass advertised by Sig. Pre-ordered the 18 Pro's.
Received them and took them out, along with 16's, to do some glassing. Huh, not blown away...
Thanks for the input, but did you actually run the Pro's side by side with 42's? I'm guessing you didn't. If so, please post up some pictures of the images to show an improvement.
For someone that hasn't used the 42's, or isn't looking through them side by side, they might seem pretty great...
Cross-posting here for awareness. I love my Gen 2 HDX 16's and jumped at the chance to give Sig more of my money on the 18 pro's. They are objectively worse at clarity, size, weight, batteries, stabilization... Sig only stands behind their "low light performance improvement".
This new gen is...
Do you haul any weight or tow? You'll want to make sure that your tires load index matches or exceeds your front and rear axle weight ratings. Start there and that might drive your choice of C or D, maybe even E. Then I look for three things personally: 3 peak rating, mileage warranty and weight...
