My wife and i killed a couple of real small bucks this year .. using all copper 180 grn bullets provided free from AZ g&f.. they worked better than i expected... but the question is have all of us been eating lead or lead residual all of these years? I for one will use nothing but "full copper" on the game that i eat....Any opinions? :)

Yeah,

Shoot them behind the shoulder with a nosler partition. Throw the meat away around the area where the bullet impacted the ribs and enjoy the remaining lead-free venison.

Buzz i think maybe you have eaten too much lead,,,,,A G&F guy told me they have detected lead as far as 8 inches from the bullet hole....i suggest a switch to copper.

cjcj,

I'm not switching to all copper bullets, they're crap.

I agree with SRR, I doubt the lead is even in digestable form.

Also, if you dont break major bones, you arent going to have lead 8 inches from the bullet hole.

I'd worry more about getting struck by lightening than having any harmful effects from a speck of non-digestable lead in a deer steak.

The sky is falling! The sky is falling!

First the lead is not atomized as it is in paint. Not at all sure than it can enter the bloodstream. Further, unlike waterfowl, humans do not have a craw to hold lead pellets giving digestive juices time to work. Any whole lead swallowed would pass through the body in 24 hours or so IIRC.
Edited to fix the bold function/srr

Besides, what makes you think that eating copper is any better than eating lead? Sounds like another "There's mercury in the tuna" fiasco..

I guess a bullet with a blue sildenafil citrate tip would be too much to ask for?

lead is more toxic than copper but you are right it's a non-issue.

Hey before Buzz blows a gasket... I just put the question out there [Buzz can`t comprehend]... |oo

The game and fish warden said we are eatin lead... I`m not saying its true or not ... but i would rather eat copper if given a choice.... and free bullets. hump

Buzz you don`t know what the hell your talking about... These new Federal "vital shock" bullets worked fantastic... 1 shot kills both deer they worked super for us. hump

I don`t see that happening [banning lead] the only reason AZ game and Fish gave out the free copper bullets.. is for the protection of the California Condors up north of grand canyon... but those bullets proved to work very well and were very accurate... Yet Dimwit calls them "crap".... can`t wait to hear why he thinks they are "crap"... bet he never even shot them before......Game and fish did not require us to use them [copper] so there isn`t a problem that i know of... they work great.

The push has already started, which is one of the reasons for Barnes ad campaigns and Lapua coming out with a bullet labeled 'Naturalis' that is lead free. What brand of copper bullets were you using in the Federal ammo? The only all copper bullets I found on their site that the load are the Barnes bullets. IF that's what you were shooting you got a good deal as their no cheap.

!-pt. "The push has already started" Where are they banned? [proof]

The fact is "IF" the lead bullets "are" a hazard then it will go the same way as lead shot did for ducks and geese etc.

I don`t think so though as we are talking about two types of conditions... gutpiles and wetlands... But i haven`t seen a ban anywhere on lead bullets for big game... if it starts in AZ it will be on the North Kaibab to protect the Condors .

Yes it was a great deal i got 4 boxes of 30-06 180 grn. and then last week they sent me 2 boxes of 338 winchester mag,in 225 grn. by mistake.. value shows $37.50 per box... not bad for a couple of $20 deer tags. And yes your right they are federal premium "shockwave" vital shock" with Barnes bullets..... these 338 winchester mags are an awesomes rounds at 225 grains they outperform my 7mm mag even with 55 more grains.. i might have to buy a 338 now for Elk/buffalo

They have not been banned anywhere yet. Although some ranges have been closed because of concerns about lead poisoning. No evidence that the bullets are what caused lead in the ground water, but judges have ruled against the range.

They don't have to be banned yet for people to be pushing for them being banned.

I'll buy those .338s off of you for $5/box.
