you sure did. I fell for it, hook line and sinker. All that talk of being over objective and all these extra cow tags, I couldn't resist... a December elk hunt? Here, take my money!

...unfortunately the elk were no shows. 2.5 days and we never cut an elk track nor saw any on public land. Apparently it was a "shoulda been here yesterday moment" as we talked to a game warden who said, "two weeks ago there was a herd of 1,000 in here."

But it was pretty country.

Temps were the adventure. All our water froze right away. Deer for days. Some pronghorn. Quite a few local road hunters. And wind... did I mention the wind. Holy crap, is hard to wear enough clothes

Beautiful scenery, but yeah, I don't think it ever stops blowing. Probably as challenging as finding elk is getting to WY in the winter. It seems to blizzard in SD every time I try to head west...

We have had similar experiences in CO 2 of 3 years. Those late season hunts seem to be very binary - either they are there or they aren't.
