To be fair, since we are calling out BS narratives, no one is saying this. What Montanans are saying is that there is ample opportunity already to use your crossbow during the several months of shoulder seasons, rifle seasons, weapons restricted areas, etc. A weapon with an effectiveness much more akin to handguns, open-sighted rifles or muzzleloaders (none of which are allowed during archery season) should be treated accordingly.I just can't imagine someone looking at an old-timer saying, "sorry about your luck, you're too old. Sure we still have a way to get you out into the field, but it's just not as noble as the way I hunt elk…”
Nothing is currently stopping the OP from bringing his crossbow out in October, or August shoulder seasons in some places.
