WY Withdraw Question

Dumb question, or more like dumb guy with question. Given the long lead time on WY NR applications part of our strategy is to put in for full price tags, while also trying to draw MT with MT being our preference (as well as a few others like AZ, UT, NM that would all be a bonus). If we draw MT or one of the other, we'll withdraw from WY. It looks like it is just a $5 fee/penalty to do so, am I reading this correct or is there something totally obvious that I'm missing.

The app fee and credit card fee are nonrefundable whether you withdraw or don’t draw.

You can withdraw your application prior to the drawing deadline in Wyoming which is variable on the species. Below is a like that shows nonresident deadlines for WYoming:

I had to withdrawal my application last year because I drew a tag in AZ. Even if you withdrawal in February they still hold your cash until May.

No, preference points are purchased AFTER the draw.

Correct . I somehow forgot to buy a pp for deer in 2024 and my account now says I either need to apply for a deer tag or buy another pp in 2025 or I lose them .

Thanks you guys. I got a road kill elk today after harvesting a cow elk this fall and I have decided I want to delay hunting Wyoming until my freezer is a little more empty.

Hard to justify to the wife why we should buy a third freezer.
