I don’t use it and I wince whenever an adult uses this word. However, it’s accepted as a nonstandard comparative.

If you already know a letter, unless you are going to make a guess at it you should cover more letters to give yourself a better chance of getting more letters. If you only know one single letter I think you should try another letter in its place till you have enough letters to start guessing
