Woodworking Hunt Talkers?

This is the start to a very special project for me. I'll tell you what it is as I get a little further along. It's starting out from a Black Walnut .View attachment 362493View attachment 362494View attachment 362495View attachment 362496
I'm getting it cut down to size. It's about 36" long and 3-1/2" thick. The humidity is still way too high to start cutting it to the final piece.
It's going to be a cross for my buddy that passed away in '23. It's going to be in the family private cemetery that dates back to the 1800's. It's a very emotional piece for me and I'm honored that they asked me to make it. IMG_20250305_105740650.jpgd661a90e-5843-4936-bae3-c72818027dd5.jpg

We put heart pine, wide plank flooring in the bedrooms. Good chance some of these boards came off of one of my job sites, the contractor that bought the timber was selling ALOT to the mill I got the flooring from. I used extra flooring to case the doors and windows in the greatroom. 20231230_150407.jpg20231230_150415.jpg20240114_133803.jpg20240331_170918.jpg20240918_192511.jpg20241102_174148.jpg20241107_183529.jpg

Agree with the earlier comment on the talents of some of you Hunt Talkers! Impressive talents for sure!

Just shot it today. 52#, shot pretty good. Maybe try to get a turkey with it.
What did you back that with or is it just coloring? And what wood did you use?
I want to make one for hunting but just haven't committed the time yet.

Silk backing on hickory. Started this hobby when my kid got older and realized I needed something to do.

Great projects on here shared by all. Feels good to be in the same company of people who speak the language of wood and hand tools. Lots of talent and creativity all around, keep em comin!
