I think I posted a photo of this bowl on the lathe.

Well, I finished it and decided to us it tonight for a meal of Wild Turkey Korma Curry over rice. The bowl is spalted walnut from my backyard, and the spoons are carved from an apple tree in the backyard orchard

I put the bowl down on the table and turned my back to grab the salt when heard a sharp snap. The heat expansion on the wood snapped a nice crack down the side.

I hope you can glue it back together ok. That's a beautiful bowl.

I did another spoon. I really love the smokebush wood. It has such interesting grain and beautiful color. I started another smaller one and I keeping eyeing the other pieces I have on hand. I might be carving a bunch of these this year.

Can't wait to see how this one turns out. I have a new mantle project underway. I am moving at a glacier's pace though.

Need to get a riser kit for the bandsaw. Have old redwood to mill for interior window trim.
New windows coming.
Been doodling ideas for new shop, porch steps etc.

I put a rise or kit in my Delta bandsaw, but it does not have enough power to be very effective at resawing, even with a very good blade.

There's no substitute for horsepower.

1 1/2 h , will be marginal. Need all new blades anyway.

Very marginal. Gear it down, if you can. Woodslicer blades, 3tpi

I liked my low tension carbide blades.
Don't even know where to get parts except from Jet. $250.
$60 16 years ago...LOL.

I was going to make corbels that followed the same mix-species, layered look, but I am going to change that. I will stick with mixing the 2 species, but do a more traditional diagonal brace. The photo of this shelf (not mine and its backets) is what I had thought about originally.

A simple bar top humidor. Exterior is mahogany, interior is Spanish cedar lined. I made a gasket for the lid with silicone but I suspect in my dry climate it'll be difficult to maintain an ideal humidity.

This is the start to a very special project for me. I'll tell you what it is as I get a little further along. It's starting out from a Black Walnut .
