Who And What Was George Custer?

Atleast i have the nutsack to admit that i am here today enjoying freedom because of the acts of different people a lot of them of European descent while still being able to acknowledge that all those acts were not so kind or perfect and I wish they could of played out much differently. I dont hide behind my apologies.

Have a better night! Take a well needed break from putting words in my mouth.

Actually there isn’t any truth in any of that. Custer was issued Colt 45 SAA revolvers and Trapdoor Springfield carbines in 45-70. Spencers were what the Michigan Wolverines used in the Civil War.

The army wasn’t malfeasant in their selection of weapons either. You have to know why the Trapdoor was adopted and what made it the better weapon in the Indian wars.

It wasn’t about expending as much ammunition as possible, it was about how to set up a skirmish line and maintain constant firing and having more range and killing power than you got with a Henry or 1866 Winchester.
You are correct. My memory had failed me.
Yes, the Trapdoor Springfield.

...and again, I wasn't there. I'm just repeating something I read long ago.

None of this is about labeling the country good or bad, but we need to call things for what they were and recognize their ramifications.

Why? If there is a place in this land where people are being genocided or someone intends to genocide people I’m not aware of it but please point it out so we can fight those responsible together. We can’t change the past, we can change the future. This is the most opportunity ridden land for all people that has existed in the history of man, we cannot be free and reach equal outcome, but I will join anyone in making equal opportunity.

History is not good or bad, it’s just interesting.

Taking the family to visit the battlefield tomorrow.

We must be on completely different pages and speaking past each other.

Yes, I feel like this thread in its title and first post was oriented towards some level of debate, or at least acknowledged that debate exists... but some have bristled to that debate when it started in earnest. But the debate was... inevitable.

Apparently this was supposed to be a lecture from shrapnel about who and what Custer was, and not a discussion.

I don’t think it takes a very open mind to realize the soldiers who fought the Indian wars greatly changed the future shape of our country, and also did some really messed up things during the course of the wars.

Yea the first bristle was and I quote "I'll crack a beer today in memory of the Lakota and Cheyenne"

U can call me fragile thats usually what people resort to when someone won't agree with them.

You got big mad when I had the audacity to remember the victims of genocide on this day. So soft and fragile that you just had to misconstrue everything I said as an issue of guilt and responsibility.

Is this not a true description of the intent of the Indian wars?

the deliberate killing of a large number of people from a particular nation or ethnic group with the aim of destroying that nation or group
"a campaign of genocide"

I’m not going to argue the merits of the Indian campaigns, that entirely depends on the lens you’re looking through.

Not correct. You made it very clear from your first post that Custer is a bad man and the natives were innocent victims. End of story. If that was not your intent you should of been more clear. Im sure I could get an A+ in your narrow minded history class without even attending.

You're something else. @nick87 should really give you the creativity points. Yes, Custer was a bad person. Those who rape and murder usually are. If you have the capacity to read the book I recommended you'll see that I have no illusions about Native Americans being perfect or else I wouldn't have recommended it.

Any time you comment on a political/social topic you show a remarkable inability to address issues head on. Instead of focusing on whether or not the Indian Wars were genocide you deflect to guilt and responsibility because it is easier for you to obfuscate. A victim of the culture war I suppose. I would never waste my time attempting to convince someone like you, so the "fragile" was straight from the heart.

Goose down. Warm butter. Charmin Ultra.

Again not correct. I clearly stated that I realize the faults of the past and gentlemen like Custer. The difference between you and me is that I'm not ashamed of it nor am I afraid of what my woke friends will think of me if I acknowledge a person like Custer for having a part in shaping the future that is today.

And yes captain insult I have the capacity to read a book.
