What won't you hunt?

I finally thought of one. A legal animal that you couldn't make me pull the trigger on. The bearded hen. I know there are people that say "BuT iTs LeAgOl" (looking at you Steven Rinella) but I say anybody that can't tell the difference between a hen and a gobbler shouldn't be allowed to carry a gun, and anybody that can and decides to shoot a hen anyway should be tied to a tree and horse whipped.

Yeah, they look human when skinned and hung. Kinda creepy to me
I will say the meat is very good! Had a buddy take one a few years ago he cooked a roast in bonfire coals. Wrapped in cabbage leaves, garlic cloves put into to slits in the roast then wrapped in several layers of foil. Was really excellent!!!!

I’m not sure I fit in here. I grew up hunting everything that flew, walked, crawled or slithered. I do regret shooting a hummingbird over bait with my BB gun.
I’ve got zero interest in high fence hunting any species but other than that I would hunt most anything.
Well, I guess I probably wouldn’t hunt penguins but that’s about the only thing that comes to mind.

Elephant would be No even if offered free. I’d shoot it with a camera is all.

Realistically, twice I’ve turned down a free Florida gator hunt. I wouldn’t fly across the country to get one. Perhaps if I was already there for something else I might do it.

🐘the only elephant I've seen that looked interesting was Howard Hill with the longbow.

I either want the animal to never know I'm there because I beat it at the hunter/prey game by skill as with deer or lay hands on it by speed and strength as with hogs. Elephant are so big you can't claim great skill in finding them. Getting up close and then using technology is neither nor. It's not like there's any doubt the elephant would win if you didn't have the gun. It's a puzzle to me. I've had to run for my life in a cattle pasture, but I've never had an urge to shoot a bull.

*So far my hog game is just chasing them. I haven't actually caught a wild hog by myself...yet.

I didn't get bison until I got close to some. My first thought was to kill it.

Ha I mean I could shoot one for sure, it’s just that thinking about it now doesn’t really trip my trigger. Certainly wouldn’t mind a pile of bison (or moose) meat though.

Any big game in a stocked preserve. I’d make an exception for naturally reproducing populations on large acreage such as Africa.

I don’t think I could shoot a baboon or a monkey. Giraffes seem to be made to admire not shoot. Hard pass on shooting a rhino. I’d definitely hunt an elephant.

Mule deer does have never flipped the predator switch in me. Whitetail does are exactly the opposite. I will happily take one for the freezer in any area there’s a stable population.

There's a lot of things I will shoot that I won't hunt. I'll kill a fox getting in a chicken pen but I won't make the effort to hunt them. I'll gladly shoot any coyote I see on a deer or elk hunt but I won't go out and set up a call for them.

Mule deer are probably my favorite animal to hunt but I’ll never shoot a muley doe. I don’t have any issues shooting whitetail does for some extra meat, and I’ve shot a few.

I’m not interested in Africa at all.

On the top of my list for things I want but haven’t taken yet is a bighorn ram, a Montana moose, a good lion, and a bison. I’ll probably never be able to take a grizzly, and that’s okay, but I would really love a nice boar grizzly.

It would be easier for me to list the species I am interested in hunting. A lot of that is that realistically I won't be traveling outside the US to hunt and I'm almost 50 so the chances I could take a lot of different hunting trips is very limited.

So I have a list of species I would like to continue to hunt or get an opportunity to hunt in the next 25-30 years:

Continue Hunting
Turkey (just Eastern so far, would like to hunt the rest of the species as well)
Whitetail
Coyote
Ducks
Geese

Hopefully Hunt:
Caribou
Elk
Hawaiian Mouflon
Hawaiian Axis Deer
Sandhill Crane
Grouse of any type

Would Hunt If Given the Chance:
Antelope
Mule Deer
Bison
Moose
Bighorn
Mountain Goat
Hawaiian Feral Goat
Wild Hog

Wait, you don't want to shoot a baboon?!
