What is you "Happy Place"?

One of my favorite happy places - I almost always see bighorn sheep, mountain goats, moose, deer and elk in this valley.

The farm. Seems like I work my ass off anytime we are out there but the pace is mine and the quiet is soothing. I love it.

My happy place is at our remote cabin in the middle of nowhere Alaska. Nestled at the base of Mt Denali. I can go there for 6 weeks during moose hunting season and come back a different person. It's a place where time doesn't matter. Not very many places like this in this day n age.

That is a super cool spot. That is exactly what I crave. A place that is secluded, and away from people. Nothing like it. I love my elk spot and my teepee setup, but having a cozy cabin to crash at would be amazing. Thanks for sharing.... You are a lucky man!

I don't have a single happy place, I feel blessed to have many happy times in so many places.

Many of them involve a horse and solitude. Whether it is running bird dogs in August as the sun comes up and the air is cool, before the sun takes hold. Or it might be a horse taking me up the mountain in the dark in the hopes of finding elk. More often it is just out for a ride somewhere interesting.

I really enjoyed taking my brother's younger daughter horse back riding in YNP as a college graduation celebration of sorts. She was great company and we rode thru some spectacular country. We even managed to see a grizzly bear on one of the rides.

I also have found being a grandpa to be a source of great pleasure. That will never get old.

This is another one for me... Haven't been in 5 years, but for a while it was our annual summer ritual.

There is a big body of water here in MT with various islands throughout. The islands are pine covered, loaded with huckleberries, and half tame mule deer, and it is a very private camp experience. We would use our boat to shuttle all of our camping gear out to an island and then set up camp. It was always one of the most secluded, serene, and peaceful experiences I have ever been a part of. My kids were still somewhat little and we would pick huckleberries, swim, make campfires, and just have a ball. Morning bacon, eggs, and pancakes with fresh huckleberries, then the kids would get dirty exploring, only to go jump in the lake and clean off. They would play together in the water and on the beach for hours. My wife and I would sit around the smoking logs and talk, with the only background noise being that of the kids playing and laughing in the water together. Our only interruption was when one of them would come back to camp to show us a cool rock, or stick, or critter they had found, or to scavenge some food off us. The sound of their laughs in the lake, and the quality time we spent together was amazing. In the evening you could feel the relief of the atmosphere as the hot sun finally began to relent, and the day began to fade. We would fire up the small grill and cook deer steaks, and at night you could stand on the beach and look up at stars, bright, crystal clear, and covering the pitch black sky....... Hoping to go back soon one of these days.

Thank you. It's real nice to have a cabin to base out of. Surrounded by a kazillion acres of public lands that can be explored. Particularly since I'm getting oller. And it's nice to be able to bring myself beautiful wife out with me. She really enjoys the solitude. Also nice and have a place to be able to bring the grandkids out to.
And we don't have wood ticks. Just lots of bears, moose, wolves n such.

Yes north of Willow a bit. Heck I've not had the opportunity to get out to the cabin much the last couple years because of neck fusion surgeries. But do have a plan to fly out with a buddy and finish installing the water well. I will then have running potable water right from the kitchen sink faucet. I need to finish installing the TnG pine boards for the cieling in the upstairs too. And take time to sit on the deck n do some target practice.
I enjoy going out n spending a week just puttering around, going out for a walkabout. Maybe you can come up n go moose hunting some time

I would love that. Maybe one day I'll take you up on it! I have enough miles for a free round trip flight and maybe the rental car prices will go down some. I have split plenty of wood in my day and know a little about a lot of things. Heck, if it wasn't for family obligations here I would think about a one way ticket and not come back! Get that neck better!
