Often times when I'm stressed or want to imagine a place of solitude, I think on my elk spot, the different draws, timbered hillsides, the magical mornings I've spent creeping up to a herd of bugles, or waking up 2 hours before daylight to the sound of rain hitting my teepee and snuggling back into my sleeping bag, enjoying the fact that I get to sleep in. I love that annual trip, and when I'm out there it feels like nothing else in the world matters.... for 2 weeks my only care and objective is to kill a bull elk. Man, I love day dreaming about that...

What's yours???

I think of the time I get to spend on a MT mountainside in the fall when I can sit back and hear nothing but the wind through the sage or pine. That is the moment i think of when i desire peace and calm.
I can experience moments in nature around home, but there is always some distant sounds of traffic, dogs, planes etc.

Hawaii, as soon as I get off the plane, my blood pressure drops twenty pints and all is right with the world. I sure how to winter there one day. Eight months in Montana and four in Hawaii. Perfect
I spent two months in San Diego (Mar - April) this year. Loved escaping Eastern MT for 2 months during winter! Of course it had to be one of the mildest winters we've had in years! LOL....

I got tired of my happy place only being a far flung mountain during hunting season. It was great but we closed on cabin on the river back in Jan...great small mouth fishing out the front door and 920000 acres of NF out the back door. It's in a state that is actually declining in population. Been there 7x already this year. Heading back for a long father's days weekend next week with the wife and boys.

I have quite a few… a lot of them are certain trees that I have spent tons of hours in. Out in the pastures hanging with my flock of sheep is another. It may be weird but something about roto mowing on my TN75 does it for me too.

Mine has changed over the years.
The past few years were when I was in my recliner reading while my beautiful pup layed tightly alongside my thigh.
No matter how bad things looked in the world, watching her sleep with not a worry in the world made everything seem alright.

She passed three weeks ago and I have cried about every day since. She was special. No odor, no breath odor. Never needed correction. She could almost read my mind and I, hers.

Calm, understanding, patient, content, forgiving, loving and loyal. What a gift from heaven she was.
