What in the heck is going on with Country music?

Better than charcoal if you've drank poison...

Throw some soft porn lyrics together and turn the reverb up to u'leven
If that don't work, play Knockin' Boots, rinse repeat...

These longhaired hillbilly rednecks were ahead of their time and would be too country for country today. Put on a good show too.

The one time I saw them live, the lead singer, Jim Dandy, comes out on stage. Takes a long drag on a big fatty. Starts twirling this huge sword over his head like Conan the Barbarian, then buries it deep into the hardwood stage. That sword weren't no prop. If it slipped out of his hands and into the crowd, there would have been a hell of a lawsuit. Bet your ass you would never see anything like that at a Kenny Chesney concert!😁

I listen to a lot of a lot of Alt Country/Outlaw country/Red Dirt country/ Texas country. I was trying to come up with a metaphor for a lot of it.

I likened it to "Grunge" Country.

See this is why I like the Western Music Genre. Nobody messes with it. It is what it is. Cows, horses, dogs, the great outdoors and small towns. Usually family friendly. You can figure these singers would be able to ride a horse.

My Core Artists: These are never gonna be Mainstream.
Dave Stamey
Brenn Hill
Chris Petersen
Matt Robertson
Mike Beck
Daron Little
Trinity Seely
Corb Lund
Ryan Fritz
Markus Sommer
J Parson

Then there is the Old Guard Western ( akin to George Jones, Hank Williams and Merle)
Red Steagall
Don Edwards
Ian Tyson
Wade Montgomery
Wylie and the Wild West (From Colfax Neffa)
Sons of the San Joaquin

Some up and comers who might make mainstream
Randall King
Buck Ford
Chancey Williams
Kellen Smith
Ned Le Doux

Thank you Ken---and--it is true ! I was country when country wasn't cool :)

Also, the song---Willie and Waylon and me--touches on several musical identities and makes statements that I can relate to.

I do remember my grandmother telling me back in the 1960's that Dolly will never be as successful as Patsy Cline. Elvis was the devil and I am not joking, people actually thought he was going to be the ruination of the young people who listened to his music. I am possibly the only one here who remember the singing cowboys and for the record I prefer the Highwaymen to Roy and Gene;)

I have a question for you fellows. Were the Dixie Chicks good or bad ? Would they have lasted longer if they had stayed out of politics and just sang or they were not good enough to have lasting success ?

The Dixie cancelled Chicks were talented and had a a pedigreed connection to the business. But the thicc little blonde spokeswomen could not keep from being politically useful.

Those of us who think country music was dead on the inside by the early 70s are even worse off. Honest country music died with the Louisiana Hayride.

People who keep insisting that Sturgill Simpson and Tyler Childers or whatever his name is have a "classic" sound...:rolleyes:

Edit: I've been trying like hell to get a copy of a single Slim Dusty song called Springtime on the Range for several years now, and cannot access it in the United States. Any international HTers out there wanna help out? I'd owe ya
