What are the deer/elk up to in your area?

In my neck of the woods, the elk are in deep cool gulches during the day, and in the evenings they emerge from the smoke with their calves to munch on north facing grasses. The bulls are where I don't know, per the usual.

The deer on the other hand, are f'n with me. But I sent a shot across the bow, er, bumper.

Found a group of 7 cows, 2 calves, 3 spikes, and probably a 2-3 year old bull all hanging out together around 11000 over the weekend. North facing slope.

It's been raining off and on for the last 5 days here at our cabin on Kolob mountain in southern Utah. Before the rains started, the deer and elk were mostly in Zion National Park in the 6-7,000 ft. altitude. The moisture seems to have brought them up here to 8,500 ft. I've seen more deer yesterday and today than the last two months. The elk are still lower.

My wife tells me rain is happening at home in Las Vegas. We need it badly.

My son spotted this dude in the irrigated field across from some state land that we shoot our bows at. If there is water, there’s sure to be deer right about now…

Blacktails are still bright red gingers ! Stick out like a sore thumb , easy to spot , In a couple months they’ll be a grayish brown like all them damn stumps and then you’ll never see them, they’ll stand there in the open and be somewhat invisible, it’s crazy how they blend and once their coats turn, I took these this evening 7/23 , I was looking for a branch bull , never found one , saw cow elk , But I took pictures of cow elk yesterday so I just kept moving hoping to find a bull somewhere and cover as much ground as I could in my pick up but no luck tonight

These 3 bulls were getting a snack around lunch time today. I have a cow tag for this area.

Around lunch? What was the temp while you’re out hoofing it at lunchtime in Nevada? 😅 This is great motivation for me to quit being a little girl about the 95* heat…… 😂

They were a mile away from the truck. We were at the truck. We were on a road trip learning the country. Glassed for an hour in a spot that looked like it should hold elk. And we found 4. I glass / Hunt all day, and I have spotted a lot of game during hours when others say the animals should be bedded. They need to stretch just like us.

Temp 85 plus.

I don’t blame you, and I’ve found the same to be true! I half expected you to say that you hiked 11 miles into the back country of Nevada in the sweltering 120* heat to find them 😂 I need to buck up. It’s been mid to upper 90s and all I can think about is swimming. I want to find elk, but man it’s hot. 🤔 maybe invite them over for poker? 😂😅
