Welcome To California

60% of CA’s electricity comes from out of state natural gas and COAL power plants. Like everything else here, this state is built on lies, deception, and an innate belief of superiority from a high horse made of smoke n mirrors. The same natural gas that powers the electric cars is being banned in homes for cooking in cities like San Fran already. Hypocrites with zero self awareness.

Reading further, when the natural gas and coal contracts expire, they intend not to renew them in 2027. No clue where they will get their electricity from in the future, and the price will increase of course. My modest home costs $400+ a month in electricity, so we are already paying ridiculous prices. If it really interests you, look up the EPA waiver for non-clean burning coal fired power plants for CA that we needed so the grid didnt collapse from blackouts.

During a heat wave last summer we were told by the state energy regulators to turn our thermostats to 80* to save energy or risk rolling blackouts. How can we handle 20 million electric vehicles??? We cant, but being electric means they can control who gets to charge and by how much, therefore regulating travel…

Had lunch the other day and watched a cidiot charge up their tesla for an hour so they could make it home from the mtns. She just sat next to it on her iphone while waiting n waiting. Inefficient use of time. I can keep going…. Look into the fire and disposal hazard from LIo batteries. Also the manufacturing energy cost and open pit mines it takes to produce the materials for these “green” cars. The lies are staggering, but pale in comparison to the lack of intelligence of the people who believe them.

Even with all of that extra tax money rolling into the state they have a 22 billion dollar budget shortfall. What do they think they are going to do when there are no cars burning gasoline? BOHICA?
Probably tax the people that have solar on their houses. I’m sure they will consider a zero balance on your electricity bill as an income at some point.

Not denying we have significant issues, but you might want to check your numbers. https://www.eia.gov/state/analysis.php?sid=CA
California's in-state utility-scale electricity generation equaled about four-fifths of the state's electricity retail sales in 2021, and the rest of its supply came from out of state.32 California imports more electricity than any other state and typically receives between one-fifth and one-third of its electricity supply from outside of the state.33 Wildfires in California and surrounding states threaten both imports of electricity and transmission within the state.34 In 2020, wind energy and hydropower facilities each supplied about one-fifth of California's imported electricity. Other, unspecified sources supplied nearly one-fifth of imports. Nuclear energy and natural gas each accounted for more than one-tenth, and coal fueled less than one-tenth. Other renewable resources accounted for most of the rest. Although coal-fired power plants supplied about 9% of imports, coal's total contribution to the state's electricity supply from imports and in-state generation in 2020 was less than 3%.

Actually, CA has a lot rolling out, for every federal dollar of tax colleted we get $0.65 back. California funds the welfare states. https://www.moneygeek.com/living/st...Vhr_Gt1TTeaMHotDXrZWAKycmwUAvcAGLlaSsZWtsNd-k

Our state revenue is also largely dependent on roughly 20k individuals that have capital gain windfalls. Newsom was so proud of the surplus when the market went bonkers in 2020/21, and he likely new it would come to an end. For decades the haven't done anything to avoid the volatility in the market, a start would be getting more federal tax dollars back. When Schwarzenegger was governor he made progress, but ever since Brown and Newsom have ignored it.

Sort of, but not quickly. They're still not cheaper to own...

So, by our calculations this makes the electric F-150 $2664 cheaper to own and operate over the first three years than its gas counterpart—and that’s without the tax credit. With it, it’s a substantial $10,164 less. The Kona Electric, on the other hand, is more costly than the gas version by $2041 without the tax credit, but $5459 cheaper with it. There can also be state and local incentives for EVs to factor in if those are available. Plus, as the years progress the lower costs of operating an electric vehicle (fuel and maintenance) continue to accrue.

This was the summary from your article?

I haven't filled up since before I got home from Montana two weeks before Christmas. Still more than a quarter of that fifteen gallon tank sitting in the Jimmy. Headed to the grocery store shortly. A few degrees above zero (F) and just short of two miles one way. Vehicle ain't moving. It should cost me ... a couple of ounces of waistline lard ... hopefully.

I have no sympathy for snowbirds feeling the pinch. That wasteful bullshit has gone on way too long. About time it became unaffordable. People from Europe and Asia look at that crap and just shake their heads.

California generates around 50% of its electricity with NG. 90% of that is imported.

"California imports more than 90 percent of the natural gas consumed in the state. Natural gas is a clean fuel that provides more than 30 percent of California’s electricity generation, a highly efficient direct source of energy for heating and cooking in California homes, restaurants, hospitals, and a key feedstock in industrial applications."

This is from JR'S link and says NG produces over 2/5s electric generation, so who really knows who is using accurate stats.

"Natural gas-fired power plants provided more than two-fifths of the state's total net generation and about half of California's utility-scale generation. "

Bottom line energy costs in California for all sources are way above the average costs in the rest of the country.

Look, a woke Canadian telling Americans how to live. 😉

Last full year I ran the energy side of our utility (2018) Cali's in-state NG generation was just over 46%. Large hydro (which we had both a share of from the CVP and imported from the north) ran about another 11%.

Problem is with SB1020 utilities are heading towards a 90% renewable/0% carbon goal by the end of 2035 and Calif doesnt count large hydro as renewable plus mandates an alternative power source to back wind deliveries.

Sooooo.....any body got a big battery they want to sell Governor Gruesome?
