viewing old posts/pics

Searching the archives and from time to time I just get a bunch of links that bring me back to the front page, also I sometimes just get a bunch of red x's in a box, solutions?

The red x's in the box just mean that the picture that was linked is no longer there.

Sometimes people delete their old pictures after a while so they no longer show up on old posts.
