Caribou Gear Tarp

2 months till Opener for the King

Well the backup split a pad this week after some exuberance post-brushing. So the saddest dogs that ever lived have to be content with judging the bikers coming through on the harvest tour.

Doggo update: We're 20 days out from the surgery and she gets to go on leashed walks for no more than 15 minutes at a time starting tomorrow. Healing is going great, and she's using the leg, showing no signs of slowing down even with an elephant load of trazadone every day.

Right knee is likely scheduled for the 14th. She should be completly healed by the end of December and we should have some good days next year.

I've felt guilty everytime I think about heading out for a short walk close to the house. It feels like cheating on a spouse.

$*)Q!#@$ dogs.

Second TPLO performed today. The dog is unhappy with life and me in particular.

She's drugged well but the incision is bleeding pretty good still. Might need to get it looked at in the AM so I'm sitting out tomorrow morning's opener for sure.

Poor kid. Right when she was getting 3 walks a day. Poor me. I found my bullets and my tags.

The bleeding stopped, thankfully. She's moving around much better but we'll still take a miss this am and make sure pretty princess buttercup stays ok.

Had a nice buck out across the road 10 minutes after last light. Here's hoping he doesn't get lead expressed!

A cold morning, fresh snow falling & permission across the road. In the pantheon of hunting, it doesn't get any better than that.

So Greta split her incision this am. And we're headed to the vet. So, that's about on track for 2024.
Fate: Not so fast Mr. Lamb...you'll get that pup well Ben

4 new staples, 2 more weeks of antibiotics and the return of the cone of shame. Was aiming for a sit tonight, but that's being held up as well. Tomorrow is another day. Plus, those deer could use a day off too.

Got out Friday and Saturday afternoons for some still hunting. I'm not very good at it yet but had multiple encounters yesterday working slowly through the woods that I couldn't capitalize on. Had does between some old farm equipment & me that were within 50 yards but no shot due to houses across the road. The one downfall of walking out your door & hunting across the road is that your wife will be very upset if you shoot her house.

Wind shifted from west to east, so I'm hitting a chunk of state land this afternoon that lets me work the cover in the right direction. Then will post up on a bedding & feeding area around 4-ish.

Not a damned thing moving. Third time here & I'm giving up on this spot for good.

Got home to find the dog managed to lick the scab off the incision when my wife answered the door. 90 seconds w/o supervision. Then the brown dog pushes the black one down tearing out the door after nothing.

Makes me want to shoot the dogs.

I rarely say nice things about bolt rifles, but that is 10 kinds of COOL!

With a really nice vintage rifle, like that one, you need something better for cross-sticks than a 22nd century monstrosity like that. Maybe some carved sticks with trolls' heads, or dragons, or... carved on their ends, or similar, would be good. Even some ceramic knobs on twist-carved walnut would be good.
