Truck bed camper ?

9 1/2 ft campers are made for 8 ft beds. The issue is the center of gravity is too far back on a 6-6 1/2 foot model. A 8-8 1/2 foot TC is more appropriate.

Don't leave the tailgate on. If it's an extremely light camper you might be ok, but otherwise, there is a chance of bending the tailgate. Also, people have found that tailgates take a lot of dents from gravel roads.

The image posted of the frame broken wasn't just due to extra weight. If so, all of the overweight truck campers would bend/break their frames. People who've had issues with truck frames generally have an uncommon usage.

Buying a new RV is a crapshoot as well. They are built one at a time. The quality. of everyone one varies. Appliances for RVs have a very short warranty period usually of 1 year or so. That means anything in one is subject to die right after you get it, or you could be lucky. Most last quite a long time since most RVs aren't used very much. If you are handy, then it's not much of a big deal.

Many new RVs spend a big part of that warranty period on the dealer lot being repaired for a lot of little things. Personally, that seems like a bad deal to me. You might get lucky though. Just one example, a friend bought a new travel trailer. He went camping several times with it. Months later, he noticed a very small puddle under it. He took it to the dealer to be checked out. The siding installer had punctured the freshwater tank with a screw. It took months to leak enough to be noticed. It destroyed all of the wall due to water damage and subfloor. His trailer spent over half of the warranty period at the dealer waiting to be fixed.

Long story short, most people take pretty good care of their RVs, but also barely use them. If the inside and outside looks pretty good, it's square with no noticeable damage, it's probably going to be ok. Like I said though, appliances don't have a long life. Most aren't very expensive though compared to a new TC.

If you buy one, do spend time making sure the roof and any seals are good. Most water damage is done from marker lights not being sealed very well. Sometimes, you can see the damage in cabinets if they have them in the front, but either way, do check the seal/sealant when you get one.
