I had a perfect goat hunt in 2022. It was awesome. I won’t apply for a tag again though mainly because the meat was so terrible. I killed a 6yo Billy that was in perfect, prime health. The carcass was beautiful. Every time I’ve ever killed a healthy 6yo Buck or bull the meat has been incredible. The mountain goat fooled me-it looked like it should’ve been 4star but was the opposite. We first cooked the tenderloins- you couldn’t chew them and they tasted very funky/rutty. Tried the back straps and steaks next-same thing so I took all of it to a game processor and had them make it into sausage/meat sticks (embarrassing). The Billy and the memories of the hunt were incredible enough to last a lifetime so since I consider them almost inedible I won’t try to get another tag

I killed a 9.5 year old in 2015, it was a little tough but better than any deer I have ever shot, flavor wise.

We turned all of mine into jerky and breakfast sausage and it tasted great! I would imagine during the rut would be a different story. Definitely has a unique taste that's hard to describe. My brother killed one in 2017 on November 11th and the dog wouldn't even eat it.

I shot mine on 10/6. He and the other 4 billies he was with weren’t rutting yet. I also expected my goat to have an odor about him especially when I saw those big glands behind his horns and his big ol nutsack…but he was the most odorless big game animal I’ve ever killed. Smelled like granite. I was dumbfounded by the poor eating experience. Nonetheless he was one of the prettiest animals I’ve ever killed, in one of the prettiest places I’ve ever been. I was very impressed by the body size and build of the animal-very unique and much larger/heavier than I had expected one to be. The first time I saw a goat, I decided I wanted to kill one more than a bull moose, ram or trophy bull elk-so it was definitely the trophy hunt of my lifetime with no regrets. I wouldn’t feel good about killing another one though.

I honestly don't know if I'll apply for them again when I'm done with the 7 year time out. Lord knows I'll draw another one when I'm 80 and I'll be too broke down to do the tag justice. Would rather save it for some young buck.
