This is why Bozeman is kind of annoying.

I grew up in Billings and live in Billings, which may not be as bad as Bozeman, but is still very different than it was 10 years ago. I lived in Bozeman when I went to school, and even then it was getting out of control. The onslaught of people moving in from out of state has been absolutely insane.

My family is from the Hi Line originally, and I could live anywhere in the state with my job. My girlfriend and I talk about moving north frequently. The only thing holding us back is the proximity of our parents and other family and being able to head to the Beartooths in 45 minutes, which is important to us.

How many people in Bozeman were born here?

Ill start: I was.

It’s not about entitlement as much as tolerance….

So im 38 now moved to Billings when I was 19. I’ve been here my entire adult life I feel like its had a huge impact on me since at 19 I was still a child so I’d say I grew up here. We built our house in 2020 up where everyone mountain bikes. I love it think it’s great I bet on a nice summer day 1000 people will ride by my house. It’s not my thing but I enjoy seeing people heading to ride your mom. My neighbor built about a year ago and is a life long Montana and told me he wants us to get all that shut down. The problem is entitlement and the people that think they have it.

I wonder if Taylor Sheridan gets the cognitive dissonance, that his characters, from 1923 and Yellowstone, at least, are supporters of traditional land use, yet by romanticizing Montana he has led to many of the changes they decry.

Supposedly Redford felt guilt about making A River Runs Through It when he saw the changes it wrought.

NIMBYism is bad everywhere.

I am platting a phased master planned residential subdivision in Arizona. The Preliminary plat has been recorded for 5 years. We just recorded the 3rd phase final plat and are now working on Ph 4.

Phases 3-6 have been graded for two years. It is absolutely no surprise to anybody buying a house in phases 1-3 that they are buying into something that will continue to grow.

Do you think that stopped Ph 2 owners that don’t even have their landscaping done because they just moved in, from showing up at city council to voice their opposition to ph 3?

Part of the landscaping issue is it’s all rolled into the mortgage. It’s a real pain I the ass putting power into some new construction houses when the neighbors already fully landscaped and you don’t have anywhere to put dirt

Correct. I moved here thirty three years ago so I'm part of the problem also. People can be tolerant and annoyed at the same time as change is inevitable. For example I tolerate the soccer moms at games because a lot of them like to show off their assets.

lol I love how those billion/ millionaires at the Yellowstone club pay their members due to live in a construction zone. Brings joys when I think of it, especially when I’m behind the mini digging the trench

I have never lived in Bozeman but I have been visiting for shopping and checking out the scenery probably monthly if not weekly for a long time. I went through a period of hating on it because of the changes but I pretty much accept it now.

When you trace the ancestry back to the roots even the multiple generation Montanan was spawned by a transplant.

I grew up recreating in Paradise Valley and what has happened to it bothers me worse than Bozeman. There is no point in being sour about it, it doesn't belong to me any more than it belongs to the newcomers. This has been happening all my life, the world just keeps getting smaller. I am trying to wean myself off of bitching about it.

I’d hazard to guess that he sees little beyond getting the dollars required to finance his high end prancing horse passion.

Maybe. But I can tell you our clients didn't end up here because of a TV show. And I'm betting they have a stronger impact on our local economy building one home than the hordes that came here to wirk in their pajamas. mtmuley
