The housing shortage and public lands

I'm fine nuking Big Sky. And any town where you can buy $5000 bottles of wine while some poor kid lives in a tent to serve the would be lords & ladies. I'm an American though, and I hate aristocracy. Get yer hands off my tea, King George!

Or, we can recognize that the economic model that values investment revenue over production revenue and community development is what's killing us as the line between the wealthy & the rest of us grows larger.
My brother and I, and our future wives skied Big Sky over college winter break 1988. Lift tickets were $25. Lodging was affordable even for cash strapped college kids. I remember seeing a fur coat in one of the shops with a $30,000 price tag! Can you even find a real fur coat in one of these ski towns anymore?

I recall interest rates peaking at over 20%. What are we at today? 3%?
In some places 0% to 1.5%.
I'm not trying to beat a drum, but Trump's economy had housing prices down, building materials affordable and APR rates (3% to 5%) where a working man could afford a home and a loan.

I had high hopes that COVID would make a bigger dent in this problem. Not really. Too bad. We humans seem incapable of dealing with it on our own. The ONLY president of US that I know of to address the need for zero population growth was ... believe it or not ... Richard Nixon. He also set aside more national monuments and parks than any other president (even TR as I recall ... though I think Carter set aside more acreage with his Alaska deals). Nixon was also responsible for Clean Air Act and Clean Water Act. A helluva conservative, eh? Anyway, when I heard him bring up ZPG in his State of the Union Address I almost fell off my chair. No one else since has had the balls to acknowledge the source of ALL our problems is situated between our legs. Head in the sand (and I'm looking at you, Right to Lifers).

That was never the plan for the covid. The jabs will take care of that. They didn't tell you?
