Not sure why but started thinking what a 338 RUM with a 20" barrel and a suppressor could do with a 210, 220 or 245 hammer. Never had too much interested in the big powder burners, but this feels.like it could be practical to carry and kill some elk and not so much my shoulder.

Anyone have any though of speeds this could produce? It's only taken like 10 years but @mtmuley finally got me to consider one.

Enough to kill an elk? Really dead.

On a more serious note, why a RUM instead of a .338 Win Mag? Either has more than enough energy.

I had a suppressed 22" 338-06, and it was impressive with the 225 ETip, but because I'm an idiot I had to have more. I'm in the middle of collecting parts to build a 22" suppressed 33 Nosler. I am still thinking the 225 Etip, but I did just order a test pack of the 220 Hammers to have them here to look at OAL and throat. Mostly, I really like the BC that .338 provides and I'm really interested to see if the Hammers provide any extra velocity like they have in 6, 6.5, and .30.

I’d also consider the 338 rpm. More comparable to the win mag than rum but I doubt you’ll see much difference on game. Plus there’s the off the shelf option of a 6 lb rifle ready to go…

Usually 30-40fps loss per inch with the bigger cases. Will still have plenty of velocity and will easily burn all the powder in 20”

Are you going to be able to get that much more velocity in that short of a barrel over a .338-06? I'm at 2700fps with the 210gr. Barnes TTSXs in a 22 inch barrel.

It seems like I should, but this exercise it to try and figure out if I can get the velocities out of the shorter barrel and still be functional to carry.

same...I don't like the idea of price gouging other shooters but now that it hasn't been available for several years it's only rich people that want it so I don't feel bad about taking from them :ROFLMAO:

I've had an 8#er listed in the classifieds for a long time now. Must be buried pretty deep in the page count by now but still..
