Haha. You caught that. I used to cut to 8 feet. Got admonished by the FS one time. So, since I like 16 inch pieces for my stove, we compromised at 80 inches. I mean I compromised. I promise not to mill any lumber. Back in my rebel days I said screw the permit. Not any more. mtmuley

They made the rule because a guy that looks like me( younger version) back in the 90's was cutting 9' and 10' logs.

I know a guy that bootlegged logs to build a fairly good sized cabin/ house. Back in 1980. Things were different. What were you doing with those logs? mtmuley

You can get 2 full cords in a ‘79 F250 with helper springs and side boards if you cut 10’ logs.

Or so I heard, from a friend.

One year , a guy that looked like me, would cut a load of logs every Thursday evening after framing condos in Big Sky during the day. He had this notion it was a good way to supplement income.

That same guy had a load checked one evening and the FS employee took one look at the logs hanging out, and then a second look at the large caliber bullet hole through the door and decided not to make a scene.

I hauled wood in that truck for 15 years on 6 ply tires. Last two trips it bit me in the ass. And I have had it loaded heavy. Don't know why I enjoy cutting firewood but I do. Might have to get higher side boards and new tires. mtmuley

Firewood is going for $200 to $250 bucks a cord here. No way I bust my ass that hard for that. Between my fuel and beer and stuff, I'm way under that. I think. mtmuley

No problem with the hitch, but you could fry an egg on the tires when hmmmm hmmm “he” got off I-90 to unload.

And those helper springs were off an earlier 70’s half ton.
