Sunday Pic of the Day

He's been working at this for 5 years now, putting in a lot of time, things never quite lining up despite a bunch of close calls. He passed on a longer shot earlier tonight because he just wasn't confident looking through the scope. But when another deer appeared a few minutes later, at 100 yards, he made a nice shot on his first ever whitetail. Proud poppa day!

I'll bet that kid is on cloud 9. Good for him.

Had the opportunity to hunt pronghorn again on a ranch a college friend married into. Had a great hunt with friends and we all shot nice bucks. Hard to tell from the photo, but some incredibly diverse and healthy native South Dakota prairie. This ranch has been in the same family for over 150 years and the vast majority is virgin prairie. Timely summer rain and proactive rangeland management has this place full of deer, pronghorn, turkeys, sharptail, Huns, pheasants, as well as non game species. Always a good to spend time out on ground like this.

My official quail catcher/relocation specialist. The dang things get blinded by the lights and won’t fly. When I get into a covey of them I spend more time catching them and throwing them along the fields than harvesting. Now that I have him along I don’t have to crawl down and chase them every 10 seconds. IMG_3635.jpeg
