Thirty years ago next week, while on a visit to West Virginia, my aunt took me to the mountains to show me mountain laurel in full bloom. I was amazed to see that much pink in the wild. It was a sight I will never forget. Now that I live here, I try to hit the bloom every year I am around.
This past Friday, I drug my daughter out of bed at Zero Dark Thirty and we picked my aunt up to catch the sunrise over the mountain laurel.
