Finally starting to tell my story. AS some of you know, this year I had a couple of other hunters to hunt with. BBBUUUTTTTT,Where should i start. I was going to hunt unit 111 Archery with left over cow tag which the three of us had. Sid likes hunting late season so that would be rifle season. But Jason was going to join me for a couple of days during archery,But nothing ever goes as planned. I drove 1987 miles to the unit which i didn't like as soon as i saw it. ( I love trees and woods) But i planned on doing my best with it. first problem, couldn't get my hunt chip to work properly on my new GPS,second left all my on line scouting and maps at home. when Jason didn't call me or show up, i tried to get a hold of him thru this web site a couple of times but kept getting warning messages that i didn't understand until it was to late. I was still logged in at home so every time i tried to get in again from somewhere else it thought i was some else. As for Jason he was having his own problems and couldn't join me so was left all alone again. there are Elk here but i and four other hunters couldn't find them or hear any. I even managed to crash my newly purchased truck into a giant unseen bolder in a ditch. spent six hours hauling rocks to put under wheels to get out of ditch, which still didn't get me out. spent night in truck and headed for traveled road the next morning. unlike CT. first vehicle to come by stopped to help out. it was a fine family of four from Rawlins who also invited me to come along on a tour of the Seminoe Dam which was very informative. then the pulled me out of the ditch and also gave me all the info they could on that unit. I had a few more problems as well so did not stay as long as i had planned. having trouble again with pics, will put them up as soon as possible. next story has a better ending, stay tuned.

Sorry for the delay for the second half but problems continue. misplaced chip with second batch of pics and lost the story i wrote to go with it. it was another interesting story and long so i am not going to wright it again unless asked. But i do have the final pic that was taken by phone. so here are the pics i do have from my archery and riffle Elk hunt. https://flic.kr/s/aHskKC38qc

tough issues sounds like.

oddest part of your tale of woe is not being able to reach hunting partner by phone and he never showed up? How does that happen? Pretty sure I have never hit the road for a hunt that involved a partner without solid communication before I left and then on the road. Did you really have a partner never show up and never call to tell you? that would suck.

How do i answer that? we had never met yet and i did not have his phone number yet. i don't remember why he didn't call but had a good excuse for not showing up.

I had the same thing happen a few years back.. Was supposed to meet up with 2 guys from this site for a hunt, neither showed. Got messages a couple days later with excuses. I went ahead and filled my tags though.

Makes you leery about planning things with strangers though, which is a shame because I did share a fun, although unsuccessful, bear hunt with another member here a couple years back.

Lack of communication, lack of a solid plan and never making plans of a time or place to meet was why there wasn't any face to to face time. I tore some ligaments in my foot the day before archery season so that put me out for a while. Rifle season rolled around and again lady luck struck again and my two year old boy broke his femur and I opted to stay home with him instead of leaving a two year old in a cast with a pregnant wife. It wasn't due to lame excuses and not showing, life just got in the way. We did talk on the phone/email and I did give Warren every ounce of info I could in hope he could fill his tag, which he did. This year just wasn't in my cards, I'm looking forward to next year in hopes we can actually have a solid plan and go from there. No hard feelings between any of us that had planned on going on this hunt. I think everyone on this site will enjoy the humor/success Warren had on this elk hunt, I'll let him tell the story but it's a hunt that will be hard to replicate!

The hunt was attempted last minute to start with. I had not even planned on going elk hunting again this year. I sucked it up and bought a permit, knowing that I could at least have a good visit with my friends in Rawlins. I told Warren that I was not going to be there until November 27th. He was there early and decided to go ahead and take advantage of the Jackson Elk Range opportunity, which worked out for him.

He returned to Rawlins and we had the opportunity to meet and spent a great day out cruising the area. The next day, Warren headed home and I went "elking". It worked out well, as I have previously posted.

As far as Jason, he was controlled by circumstances that made things pretty tough. His intentions were all good and putting together a last-minute hunt with long-distance partners, is no joke to start with. This hunt turned out well for everyone but him, because of the way things unfolded.

Every hunt is a crapshoot to plan for yourself, let alone other unknown people. Warren was going out west whether we went with him or not. He was the one that suggested it, not Jason. It was Jason's suggestion to try the Jackson option, which neither Warren, nor I, was aware of and it salvaged Warren's hunt in the end.

Best-laid plans can go awry and all things considered, this escapade turned out pretty good over all.

Merry Christmas
