Splitting points in WY

I've actually split points with quite a few other hunters over the years. It has actually ended up a great experience for both parties. I have mostly shared hunts for antelope but have also shared a couple mule deer and elk hunts. I burned a gob of deer and elk points on a couple of the hunts I split points, so it wasn't like I hadn't invested time and $ into the splitting points scenario.

There is something to be said about having local knowledge and experience with units. Also, the ability to scout hard prior to a shared hunt with the benefit hunting with someone with field judging experience is a bonus. I shared hunts with several father/son or husband/wife duos that were awesome! I shared a hunt with a husband/wife from Alaska that would have been nearly impossible for them to scout since they lived so many miles away. Several of the hunters I've shared experiences with I'm still close friends with to this day.

Pretty much every antelope hunter I shared hunts with harvested super bucks for the unit....several of which made B&C or were knocking at the door of B&C. Several buddies harvested bigger bucks and bulls than me! In fact, one of my buddy's bucks officially scored 85+ B&C! I haven't shared a Wyo antelope hunt for several years due to the lack of quality bucks due to winterkill, but from what I've seen across most of Wyoming the quality of bucks is slowly but surely improving and I'm ready to start burning points again.

Several of the previous posts make it sound like splitting points is a bad deal, but from my experience it's everything but that. Yes, there may be some shady characters out there and some may apply their wife for tags that never hunt, but in most cases splitting points is a win-win for both sides. It's great for family members or hunting buddies to apply and share a hunt together that optimizes their points to the highest degree.

If anyone has deer, elk, or antelope points they would like to share, please contact me. I can think of some great hunts we could share.

Think I’ve got 9 or 10 going into this year. Wife has the same amount. She’d probably take a deal on them 😄

The only points I'm splitting are my brother's when he decides to get off his azz and come to Wyoming with me. The longer he sits on them, the better for me I guess?! Chances are he'll have to split his points in half because I'll keep burning my points as I go in the meantime.

But if for some mystical reason I were to get an offer like those mentioned, I'd sure take it. I hunt enough public to take the private land hunts when they come.

I'm not gunna lie.....if an outfitter contacted me to share my points and I had a free access to deer that were 160+ on ranches so I did not have to scout and they showed me where they were... I would do it...and I think many would...
So would I but I only have 11 antelope points 10 deer points and 9 elk points..............................

So does the person “splitting their points” lose all their points? So they are effectively using 10 points to draw a 5 point tag? Or are they keeping 5 points? And so the buyer is buying you out of half your points, and you’re losing all of them?

Pretty sure I understand but just verifying.

Lose em all. 10 pts split between 2 people for a 5 point avg.

Both applicants that apply together points are averaged and are lost after tags are drawn. It’s not always a 0 scenario on one side like many have alluded to.

I take back my comment, anyone with 6+ points wants to split, I'll put you in a huge public spot where you will 100% see raghorns 'erday!!! 🤑

I won't hunt with you though, F that!

@Trencher2 😎

I’d gladly shoot a raghorn, never shot a bull yet. Glad everyone’s got a solid opinion on the matter. I’d gladly pay for points and then some if someone offers. I have access to good private land in western SD if someone has points here to burn for deer or goats.

Still hoping for a taker. Look at the draw odds, guys are using 13+ points for a general elk tag. There is no need to do that to yourself. You can’t write off a donation to the WY G&F for extra points.

Still at the low ball offer of just $260?

If you go x10 that I'd bet you would garnish a lot more interest and it's still way cheaper than anything outfitted to get a tag. Heck I'd maybe even be interested in that ballpark.

$260 for points that cost over $500?

I have access to multiple accounts with dbl digit points, up to max. While the thought of selling them has crossed my mind, it just isn't going to end well for the regular guy. I believe the number of outfitters asking for points will grow year/year, and eventually it'll force the Dept to change how the points are used in a party, and the guy trying to party app with his 12 year old kid will be the one getting screwed.

His offer was to pay you for 5 years of points. 52 x 5 = 260

Why an insult? If we split your ten points for a general tag that requires 5 and we both draw and you get the $262 back for the points you accumulated that I used it sounds like an even draw. If someone made me an offer to pay over that I’d consider it but no one has even mentioned it.

The offer doesn’t take into account the time value of money nor supply and demand, so yeah, it is a BS offer.

It’s not my fault you waited too long to apply for a general tag. Like I said, make the offer if you want more, no one has yet. I can’t say no if you don’t offer it.
