Southeast Colorado elk hunting?

I live in the southeast corner of Colorado and have heard people talk of alot of elk in Baca county in the canyons along the Colorado New mexico border. Has anyone ever been down there to hunt them?

Most of the guys I know that work down that way in the oilfield see a lot of elk. But most are on Ted Turners ranch. Imagine that.

John, the Purgatoire valley should be able to hold elk; there's some pretty rough stretches of it down from Trinidad and on past Kim. I used to bird hunt some around there, but never saw any elk, but then we were mostly out in the grasslands.

My buddies dad is the manager for the UU Bar ranch south of Cimarron NM. Ive seen alot of elk that way, especially on the Vermejo ranch.
