South Dakota Bison

Thanks guys. It was a fun even if a bit different. Glad that SD and Custer State Park offer this.

I did drive and yes a skinned/quartered cow bison will fit in the back of an Avalanche. It was cold enough I just laid them on a tarp and drove home. It was not quite froze when I got to the processor. I shot it just above the wildlife loop road with my 338 Win Mag at 140yds. Probably could have gotten closer but no real reason to as that's a pretty easy shot on something that big. It would have been fun to have a Sharos though.... The pack out is part of the deal with the tag and they'll even deliver it to a packing plant for you for a reasonable fee. The parks bison manager also raises bison and estimated her to weigh about 950# live. Not the biggest but he judged her to be in the best condition. Bulls can be more than 2X that heavy!
