HT,

Last year I was listening to Janis and Steve discuss their number of shots per kill. It was a different way to think of the hunt. This lines up with how my Pops taught me how to hunt. Be calm and one, well placed, shot then wait.

My list for last 10 deer:
1. 1 shot
2. 1 shot
3. 1 shot
4. 1 shot
5. 2 shots
6. 2 shots
7. 3 shots
8. 1 shot
9. 1 shot
10. 2 shots

15 shots divided by 10 kills = 1.5 ratio

I can live with that! I take pride in getting close and making a clean kill. That almost means as much to me than anything else.

*disclaimer* these were all shot within 200 yards. This is not me bragging about my shooting skills.

What's your ratio and species for said ratio?

🍻🍻

I shoot. If critter is still standing after 3 - 5 seconds, I prepare to shoot again. Took four rounds in a moose and all 4 were lethal but the bull did not understand that.
Can you remember your last 10 critters and the shots they took? I'm looking for the mean and not an outlier.

2019 3 lopes, 1 buck Deer, 1 cow elk: 5 shots

2018 3 lopes(4), 1 buck deer, 1 cow elk(2): 7 shots

2017 2 lopes(3), 1 deer: 4 shots

16/13 1.23 shots per animal
Nice shooting, Tex!
That's the type of stats I'm looking for!

I have managed plenty of one shots over the last few decades but a mountain goat in 2015 ate up 5 rounds from a 7 mag all in the chest.... so I'm scared to see my average unless excluding that one

Last fall:
Elk 1 shot 6mm
Elk 1 shot 7-08
Elk 1 shot 7-08
Deer 1 shot 7-08
Bighorn ram 1 shot 7-08
Pronghorn 1 shot 7-08

Long shot was 267 yards, close was 70ish yards...not all falls go that well.
That's about as good as it gets, congrats!

Last year:

elk 3 shots, first fatal, two more trying to anchor him before he fell into the hell hole.
deer 1 shot

2018

Elk one shot

2017

Deer two shots
Elk three shots (still standing still shooting)

2016

Deer one shot
Deer one shot
Elk one shot
