Reloading: a love hate story

I'm new to reloading so I'm trying to learn as much as possible. How far should the chronograph be from the end of the barrel? Is it 10 feet?

General rule of thumb is about 4-5 yards.

Agree w/ Southwind. Chasing speed can be fun, but I prefer to obtain the best accuracy now.

Ugh, reloading can be a complete mess and confusing sometimes. My 270 tends to run about 50fps faster than published loads which is great but my 300WSM won't even let me get close to published max and is more like a 30-06 now. I can't figure out what is going on but suspect the chamber is on the minimum side for length. My Howa Mini action 223 didn't show any real signs of pressure with CFE223 and only minimal primer flattening 1/2 grain over max. The problem was i couldn't get a group better than 1". I'm actually going to put a higher magnification scope on it and try again as I did find a small node that shows promise and it may be a seating depth thing.

Good thing you're not bulk loading pistol rounds...saturday I "loaded" about 50 rounds without any powder because I didn't put enough powder in the hopper on my progressive press. That was a spooky moment at the range. Luckily there weren't any under/over charged rounds just went pop.

Been there, done that. On a single-stage press.
