We've toyed with idea of getting some chickens, we have the room... but it would be an endless battle with predators.

Predators are actually pretty easy to deal with things like chickens or ducks. Ducks are way betterer.

Well we have both grey and red fox, coons, mink, otters, bobcats, bears, and the occasional wolf in addition to Barred and GH Owls and several raptors. And a surprise possum last fall too...darn things getting more common further north all the time.

The threat to shut off electricity to the US is a serious issue. Ontario and multiple states electric grids are interconnected. If Ontario flips the switch, a blackout similar to the one in 2003 can occur.

Sometimes you need to out-crazy the guy acting as if he is crazy. Much like the Ransom of Red Chief but with maple syrup wafting through the air. Turn off the juice for a week. Start a Go Fund Me to replace the lost revenue. Even Quebec will toss some money in the hat.
