Relax, Everything is Going to be Okay!

I’ll pay a survey crew chief that can work independently, show up on time, sober, work hard and communicate like an adult $40/hr
He doesn’t have to report to an office, there’s no boss looking over his shoulder, give him an almost new truck to take home, 401k, insurance, PTO etc
This is a six figure job with a little OT

The engineer I share an office with pays very well, allows remote work and needs a civil engineer that is skilled in grading/drainage and stormwater modeling.

This is in AZ. We both struggle to staff positions like this, likely due to being in a resort/retirement community.(havasu)

Here in Absarokee, MT, I couldn’t find someone to paint my house.
And I don’t mean someone that I could afford. I mean nobody would agree to drive from Billings or Bozeman or even Columbus to do it. We finally did it ourselves.
In Worden/Huntley MT last summer the irrigators were all hispanics.
When I was in high school, not that long ago, that was what my friends and I did.
Now farmers have to import people to do it.

Positions that are hard, especially if they are hard physically and involve having a brain can be very tough to fill.

I'd guess, it is the commercial painters in Columbus, Billings, and Bozeman are busy enough, that they not inclined to take on a smaller job, that requires a longer commute. Columbus just might not have anyone, I don't know.

I took my horses to Absarokee yesterday to get their feet trimmed. The farrier I have long used, no longer comes down to the Billings area. I don't attribute that to him being unwilling to work. His life has changed and he has scaled back his farrier business. I could find a more local farrier, but I like his work, and him.

One spinoff of unemployment being low, is that any business looking for someone has to make it worth it to someone to leave their present job. Most people won't make a lateral change in their employment, especially if it involves relocating.

The lack of ideological consistency is the most frustrating part. Everyone is happy to throw their fists in the air at the money Pelosi has made gaming the market with insider knowledge, but when we're literally watching insider dealing in plain sight, it's fine cuz we're owning the libs!
Or maybe Starlink has a better product than Verizon's negotiated behind closed doors contract?

Cancel culture is a vicious thing. The ridicule and hatred it's owner is generating aint gonna do them any good.
I heard Sheryl Crow dumped her Tesla. Might be a good time to pick up a used Tesla at bargain basement prices right now if ev's are your thing. I will stick with my ICE vehicles for now.

Starlink can't find my address, after finding and sending me a 1st gen. Now they can't find me when I ordered a new one because the 1st died after a year. And there is no way to contact them, nor customer service.

I'd be a billionaire too if I stiffed everyone all my life.
Now I have to go through an ordeal and get a new debit to rid myself of the bill.

Another part of the story is the aging of our workers. Baby boomers were a huge component of the overall population--and one by one they have reached and made the decision to retire--and more coming soon.

Our national birth rate is not coming close to replacing those leaving the work force. Couple that with more job choices for young folks in general and the specialty jobs along with many others aren't being replaced as people have done them for a while retire.

I see stories like this in our rural papers all the time. Long time business owners can't find anyone to take over when they retire, skilled workers retire and no one wants to replace them.

The solution could be a combination of things, NONE of which are supported by this current administration or republicans in general...MORE immigration, MORE government funded support for families, government incentives to have children...ain't gonna happen under Trump.

New technology is always a crap shoot. I like to wait till they work out all the bugs before buying into it.

No desire for me either.

Just thought of another ironic reality.

Trump killed the Biden administrations incentives and money to expand interest in and build more charging stations for EV's.

And more--we had a badly needed (because China controls the majority of the market and their products are not great at times either) solar panel manufacturing facility with major job creating expansion underway who suddenly pulled the plug because of Trumps actions in my state recently.

Maybe. But shouldn’t there be a bidding process where they evaluate the alternatives? Or is it ok for the guy in charge to give a multi-billion contract to himself?
Don’t worry, I know the answer. It’s why you overlook all the government money that goes to Trump hotels.

I took a Starlink to elk camp this year worked amazing just had to have the ap and everyone set up before you left seevice

Would have been nice if the Reuters article dug deeper into the story. They didn't. They just threw out a bunch of innuendo bait for guys like you to gobble up.
