Might modify what the helo pilot needs to affirm. Perhaps change Tower to be: "PAT25 multiple runways in use. I repeat, multiple runways in use with landing approaches underway. Traffic just south of (unclear) bridge is a CRJ at 1,200ft turning for Runway 33"

Brother have you listened to the DCA radio between 7-9 either side of the clock? They'll go to vectoring rotaries before they read them your TAF on check-in. You should be asking why an established route crosses a (final) approach.

I'm done speculating until I see the blackhawks flight data and their elevation. I still think it was a ceiling bust.

They busted ceiling and had eyes on the wrong airplane. Similar to PSA flight 182 I think.

Yeah, safety is a priority and that's why they train the mission.
I know nothing about military aviation as my 24yrs Army time were on the ground. Lot's of questions to be answered about what they were doing and whether that's the best practice. I'm sure some changes will be made.

Imagine the reaction of the officer who signed off on the risk assessment. No way I would want to be them as this investigation plays out.
 
There is a FB post about the pilot being anti Trump transgender female. He/She transitioned during Biden’s term and policies.

If so, it is likely why the press conference was about DEI. As the administration already knew who had died.

Whether any of that is true or not I don’t know. It was a tagged post from a conspiracy theorist guy I served with.
Man, I hope that isn't true (and haven't seen any reputable confirmation of it). She joined the military as a plain-jane white man, so not a DEI hire, and anyone with two functioning brain cells to rub together can tell that gender had nothing to do with this, but the already horrific national dialogue is just going to get worse if people can try to pin this on trans people.
 
Any serious accident will identify many factors contributing to the end result. There may not be "the one" action that if corrected will prevent another. Sometimes it can be characterized as cascading event.

I watched cable last night and heard a statement that seem odd to me. Which prob is so what.

Helo's and jets are not on same radio frequency so they cannot hear either aircraft response to controller instructions.

Like everything else, if a cable news states it, must be true......
 
As Army helicopter pilot for twenty years, training flights were as prevalent as specific mission accomplishment. Typically in the UH-1 Huey, we flew with a pilot, copilot, and the crew chief. In Vietnam each aircraft had a designated maintenance pair, consisting of the crew chief and a gunner. Incidentally, in Vietnam I flew many single pilot missions during which I would put the crew chief in the copilot seat, in case I became incapacitated. After instructing and practicing flying with them, a couple crew chiefs could hover and fly the aircraft well.

Regarding NVG (Night Vision Goggles), the equipment is critical in a low light environment, however, bright lights can "blow up" the illumination to the extent of distraction and reduction of clear visibility. So I would not opt to fly NVG at a busy airport in a metropolitan area, with bright lights coming from everywhere.
 
As a retired military member I can speak to my experience only. There are a lot of folks positioned in the military they should not be in because of ineptitude. Gender and ethnicity absolutely plays a role in who gets what. Especially, when a position goes in front of a board and the board gets pressured to even out the force.

When he joined it was not DEI at all. When he transitioned and got commissioned, she absolutely could have been a DEI decision at the board. Every Warrant Officer has a packet that goes in front of a board. Those boards are comprised of senior officers. Senior officers have to play politics. That has been pushed pretty heavily in the last administration. Does that have anything to do with the crash? Probably not, but the investigation will sort it out. Past performance reviews will be looked at. Maybe she was an excellent pilot. IDK.

I’m not defending that post on FB. However, There is more to it than two brain cell decisions.
Thank you for your service, and I haven't served so I can't say anything for certain, but I imagine that who you know plays a role in moving up the ladder sometimes too. I just think it's shitty that this person (who may or may not even exist) could have an exemplary record of service and absolutely deserve to be where they were, but just because they aren't a white male (anymore), it is assumed that they got there because of DEI. I haven't seen any discussion of the qualifications or record of the other two men.

If Jo Ellis was actually on that chopper, the story will be out of control by the time any actual data about her service record comes out. And I can't imagine the people who started it will go out of their way to set the record straight.

In military aviation SAFETY is paramount. Proficiency is critical and mandatory. Competency in performing to standards is "life & death" of importance.

There is NO wink and a pass due to DEI, nepotism, friendship, politics ... or for any reason!
Unfortunately, I didn’t find this always to be true in the guard.
