Ready for a new 7 mag load

@perma,

So!!??
Did you find a load for the 7mm Rem Mag??
I’m experimenting with sciroccos. I haven’t heard much of people using them so I thought I’d be the outlaw. Bought some 4831SC and IMR 4350 to mess around with, Peterson brass and remington primers. Won’t have a field report for a bit but I’ll follow-up later on this month.

i used scirrocos long time ago, didnt kill any better then accubonds. and more pricey
175 berger elite with 7828, rel 26, or vv565
all get over 3000, over 30 head of big game and untold coyotes. to distances im called a liar at, 1 bull took 2 shots at less then 100yards , he wouldnt move but wouldnt fall down,
last week sold all my rel 26 and bought 2x as much 565 and 570, 6.5prc , 7mag, 7stw,300stw and creedmore all have great loads , with 565 so far
im trying to get down to h4350, tac and 565. and have many 8lb of ea,,,

I'd tend to agree with 300stw.

Vihtavouri N550, N565, N570, IMR7828, Retumbo, H1000 would do you better than IMR4350.

The 4831 would be close to RL19 burn wise.
Not the highest velocity, but decent accuracy.

RL23 and RL26 are good for the bullet weight, but finding any is hard to say the least.

I do have some H1000 but it works good with my 300 WBY so I’m trying to save it. I may try a few with it just to see what it does. The 4350 was what’s on the shelf. I do have high hopes for the 4831SC.

I shoot 162 gr eldxs out if my 7mm rem mag. 74.5 grs (under book max) of 8133 pushes them at 3150 fps.

Other loads I tried were with 160 gr accubond with one oddball powder and one with h1000. Those two loads were around 3050 to 3100.

Abysmal velocity of watered down factory ammo for this exact gun is the reason I started reloading. The factory hornady ammo with the same bullet was less accurate and well under 2900 fps. I didn't buy a 7 rm to have 7-08 velocities.

Someone on another forum was giving his results on Ramshot Grand with his 300 Win.
Fairly impressive.

I might try some in the Rem & WBY Magnums.

So, i was tinkering around the reloading area the other day.

Ran across some 168gr Berger Classic Hunter and 2lbs of Ramshot LRT.

Ran the numbers through Quick Load for the Rem Mag and the WBY Mag.

I think I'm going to give this combo a try.

Hope you get better results than I did. I couldn’t make those group well, but I didn’t load off the lands either. Probably why.

I’m not achieving the velocity I thought I would from my 7 mag. It’s enough for me to comfortably shoot 350-400 yards for elk but I’d like to poke out to 500. I currently have 150g TTSX on H1000 at a bit under 2800 FPS at .75” MOA @100 yds. My goal would be the same MOA or better but at 3000 fps.

Why you may ask? I’m bored. No other reason. Don’t fix what ain’t broke? I didn’t, I have plenty of rounds ready for bear season. I’m just bored and want to mess around some more and learn. Also want to save the powder I have, too.

If you aren’t seeing pressure signs keep adding h1000. If you want to try something different. I’ve never seen a 7mm Remington not shoot IMR7828 underneath a 150 grain ballistic tip

I can load to the lands in both my Rem and WBY Mag and fit in the magazine.
Problem with the Weatherbys is the short ejection port.
Touching the lands is 3.630" with a 160gr Sierra SPBT GameKing.
But it won't eject a loaded round.
Have to pull the bolt, and that requires opening the bolt and pulling the trigger to remove.

Chit can happen, so I'm not about to chance an out of battery discharge!

Loaded to CAOL of 3.360" lets me enect a loaded round if needed.
So i have a pretty good jump in the Weatherbys.

Or a 160 Accubond and RL-22. mtmuley
Yeah...
But good luck finding any Alliant powder!
Local distributor/wholesaler has a few bottles left. And once they are gone, they are gone.

Found out the reason why Vihtavouri is the powder manufacturer that has the most offerings in stock is that they make their own nitrocellulose.

I have a 7mm RM load developed for the Hornady CX-150 with H4831SC. Getting 3160 fps (avg) and 0.51 MOA (max) over a 40-round load confirmation cycle. I seat 0.015 off the lands.
ive shot 7mm 150 sierra boat tails for years...my 1962 rem 700 loves them...use 66 grains of 4831...chrono sez 2875...5 elk 2 oryx and 10 deer and antelope...my gripe is they dont go through giving 2 blood exits...the bullets are doing what they were designed to do and have found them under the hide on the off side numerous times...problem is they go in leaving a pencil size hole that is sealed of by tissue then bleed internally, no blood trail...i totally understand and see the damage internally by the bullet leaving all its energy in the animal but sometimes the animal does not visually react to the bullet, elk and oryx are tough... ive seen them totally collapse on a marginal shot but other times they act like nothing happened ...my wife shot an oryx that left no blood trail, found it after extensive searching that other hunters might not have done...upon gutting the top half of his heart was gone... when someone else is shooting your gun you dont know if they made a good shot...have lost 1 deer in west texas due to spoilage cuz i thought the guy missed, they can spoil overnite cuz it doesnt cool down ...my grandson shot a good muley with me, ran into some weeds where it couldnt leave without us seeing it...took us a long time to find it, excellent shot just a little blood out his mouth no trail...going moose hunting in wy, soo im gonna load 150 cx hornady...saving some sierra loads in case the cx dont group

I was running a smoking hot load with Hammer 131gr HH over RL-26. Shot 1/2 MOA out of my 9 1/2 twist M70.
That is the brass and bullets I listed on the classifieds thread.

Easiest load workup I ever did.

Years ago I had a Sako L61 in 7mm Rem Mag and had the throat opened a bit so I could seat out a 160gr Speer HC to just off the lands and base of the bullet seated at the intersection of the neck and top of the shoulder. Load I'd worked up for it was 69.0 grs N-205, probably won't find it today. That was two grains over max in the Speer manual. The thing shot consistent 5/8" groups at 100yds from a bench. Max load in that old manual was 67.0grs N-205 and velocity was about 2800fps. Guessing I might have got it to 3000fps. Beauty of it besides the accuracy was I shot the bullet's into newspaper at 100yds and the bullet's retained 85% of their weight and the core's were tight in the jackets! Wish chronograph's were around back then! Word of caution, the rifle was a Sako and the magazine well could handle the extra length! Don't have a clue if your rifle will but you could load a dummy and try it.
