In looking at the 2022 Montana regs that just came out, I noticed that the Sportsman's license without bear for adults is $62.00 and half that for youth ($31.00). That part makes sense. However, the price for Sportsman's license with bear is $77.00 for both adults and youth. But a youth can buy the Sportsman's without bear for $31 and separately buy a bear tag for $19.00....that's a total of $50.00. Why on earth are we charging youth $77.00 for something that they can buy ala cart for $50.00?? Can anyone explain this? I checked with FWP and they said the regs read correctly so it wasn't a typo. This is criminal! I guess if you are a parent looking to buy your child a bear tag, do not get the sportsman's with bear - just buy the bear tag separately.
