Previous fur catch pictures

I thought I would post some pictures of some special days trap line catch. There were some long nights skinning after the photo was taken.


The only cat I have caught in a foothold. I usually use 220 conibears. This cat wanted to see if it could pee higher than the coyotes on the log.
A couple 40 plus pound cats that were caught in 220's out of mesh cubbies I would place in leaning trees five or more feet off the ground.

And what I call being "Dumb Day". I had seven 330's set on this stream as shown. The spring season was ending so I was going to pull the traps. I thought that many 330's aren't going to fit in my pack basket so I will just carry them the half mile chest wader trap line back to the truck. I'll just reach through the sprung traps and carry them out that way. I totally didn't expect the animal movement was going to be so heavy as this stream was small. Boy was I wrong! 100 percent catch rate! It took me two loads. The second was with the pack basket full and stacked with the fur. That line was good exercise that day.

I’ve never got into trapping myself but it’s an art that I hope never dies.

Only had one in a trap but it pulled out before I got there thankfully. Bet that’s a rush as I know how their little bobcat cousins can be

Ya we caught 3 and had another big tom in a trap for a hour but than he pulled out. Let me see if I can find some pics of him

Not to ruin the glory of this thread but on occasion you catch an animal that is not the luxurious fur that you are hoping for. This is where trapping turns into medicine and benefit to other animals. Imagine how you could feel if you had an allergic reaction, irritation, infection, and lack of clothing to keep yourself warm or protected by prickly brush all at the same time. Catching Mange Mite infested animals is a real let down. This coyote was handled very carefully after dispatch and burned in a fire to try and stop the contagious spread of the Mange Mite. Trapping - another tool to benefit wildlife.
