drying bag

hey guys,i see i am still the only one posting on this site, when i go fishing i put my wadders and boots in a mesh bag ,that way when they are wet ,they can dry somewhat on the way home and i dont loose them on the highway,i just trow the bag in the back of the truck and go

tree stands

when selecting a tree for your portable stand try to find one that is leaning a little towards the back so you are a bit more comfy, also you can camouflage your stand by putting branches under your stand and sticking branches or small trees through the platform of your stand, makes you blend in a bit more

marking your best location

hey guys, finding good used deer trails are sometimes very hard in summer,or early fall,i will go out as soon as snow falls after hunting season to get an insight on all the trails, the most used, where they criss cross, where they cross streams, roads, gullys, sure the feed changes and winter cover comes into effect but you cando your most effective scouting as soon as possible after hunting season.if you plan on hunting new teritory ,this is the best way to go at it.i will also mark any good tree stand spots on the gps crossings, stream crossings and i really like where 2 deer trails cross each other

You know sometimes you learn alot from experience. 30 years ago on my first moose hunt, we set up our tent in a low lying sandy hollow. Of course, it rained. You know, we had to unzip the tent to let the water get out. Now I am always very careful where I place my tent. Had to learn the hard way.

I make my own scent dispensers out of the fingers of old gloves. Cut the fingers off, sew a rock or a sinker inside to give it weight. Soak the material in the scent of your choice, put in a ziploc bag and carry to your stand. Put a rubber glove on (for the obvious reason) and throw these little scent carriers where you want. It keeps you away from the trails. My son uses blaze orange finger tips so they are easier to find when he is leaving. When I get home, I wait til the wife goes to work, then wash them in the washing machine. Now they are reusable...taa daa.

To make those handy little blue wipes with the sent killer in them as you can readily buy off the shelf ready made...

2 medium zip lock bags
Bottle of hunters specialty spray
Blue shop towels

Put one zip bag inside of the other, this way when one gets a hole in it, the other is still good

Fold up as many shop towels you will need for the trip and place in baggie.

Poor just enough hunters specialty into the bag to make the towels just wet, not over saturated

Now your good to go and the baggies will last for months.

I also use them when I am on the fire lines and some times we aren't allowed resources to clean one self...

I have used these for two weeks straight in dusty dirty environments with no issues about scent problems from other fire fighters...

I steal the huggies wipes from the grandkid! Great for taking off camo paint, and cleaning up. Actually you can buy a whole tub for about $1. I put some in ziplock bags, and let the rest in the truck. Wife even appreciates them in special times, she would much rather use them, than leaves.

I did not come up with this Idea I'm just cutting and pasting it here that I wanted to share with everyone that has not herd of this. ---->(ZIPLOC OMELETS

Have you ever heard of this? (This works great! Good for when all your
family is together and no one has to wait for their special omelet).

Have guests write their name on a quart-size Ziploc freezer bag with
permanent marker. Crack 2 eggs (large or extra-large) into the bag (not
more than 2) shake to combine them .

Put out a variety of ingredients such as: cheeses, ham, onion, green
pepper, tomato, hash browns, salsa, etc. Each guest adds prepared
ingredients of choice to their bag and shake, Make sure to get the air out of
the bag and zip it up.

Place the bags into rolling, boiling water for exactly 13 minutes. You
can usually cook 6-8 omelets in a large pot. For more, make another pot
of boiling water. Open the bags and the omelet will roll out easily. Be
prepared for everyone to be amazed.

Nice to serve with fresh fruit and coffee cake; everyone gets involved
in the process and a great conversation piece.

Trent, that sounds like a great idea.

Another thing I like to take along as pocket food for the trail

Cook up a little hamburger, and potatoes (cubed)

Take some insta buiscut dough that you get in the little tubes.

Flatten out your dough, put in the cooked fillings and wrap them up.

Place on cookie sheet and bake for what ever the tube states so the dough gets cooked.

Then after they cool down, you can put them in a zip lock or wrap in tin foil or napkins...

Then have then as a good tasting trail food...

Now don't laugh cause I know everyone of us has done it. If you find that you are starting to nod off to sleep during your morning hunt then get down out of your stand and head to the truck. Lay the seat down and if you have a watch with an alarm take a noon hour nap and you are ready to go for the late aternoon hunt and you waisted no gas.

lost

when i head out to the woods ,i carry a servival pack, small first aid kit, solar blanket, rain poncho, waterproof matches, flashlight, marking tape, tuck tape, knife ,wistle, tie wraps, toilet paper, and an extra compass, all this is all tucked in my fanny pack that way i just grab my pack before going out,it seems like alot of stuff but its actuallypacked in pretty tight.......i have had one time ,when i was about in the field,i had 2 compasses that were both pointing in opposite directions, witch one to follow?i just took out the one from my survival pack and matched it with the other 2 compasses, bingo, found the one that was broken, had i not had an extra compass,i may have followed the broken one and got lost.

I carry rain gear, gps, compass, extra batteries. Everything I have that uses batteries use AA, I can always take the batteries out of a mag lite and put in the gps, and etc.

Dry Feet

After A Days Hunt,my Boots Are Damp And If They Are Not Dry For The Next Day I Will Get Cold Feet In A Hurry, sure If You Have Access To A Wood Stove It Helps But If Not Try This, crumple Up Some News Paper And Stick Them In Your Boots, right Up To The Toes, when You Take The Paper Out Next Morning You Will Not Beleive The Moisture It Picked Up

waterproof your scope

on my riffle i have butler creek flip open lense caps for my scope, when on a rainy day i will flip them open only when the shot presents itself,i try to practice both fliping it open and puling the safety off at the same time,so it comes natural in the moment of truth,i have heard of people using an old iner tube from a tire, they just cut a strip, about 3 inches wide and strech it over their scopes, like a rubber band, suposedly it works just as well

Bring Your Camera

I HAVE BEEN HUNTING FOR MANY YEARS NOW,I REGRET NOT TAKING ANY PICTURES DURRING MY YOUNGER YEARS,I HAVE A COUPLE HUNTING ALBUMS NOW,I RELIVE EACH MOMENT BY LOOKING AT THEM,NOT JUST THE KILLS,BUT THE CAMERADERIE AT THE CAMPS,THE LANDSCAPES,HUNTING BUDDIES,IT ALL MAKES IT WORTH WHILE,WHEN YOUR 90 YEARS OLD AND LOOK BACK AT ALL THOSE FOND MEMORIES.A FEW TIPS ON TAKING PICTURES OF BIG GAME KILLS,GET THE SUN AT YOUR BACKOR EVEN BETER FIND SOME SHade ,GET AS CLOSE AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN,(SHOWS ALOT MORE DETAIL)AND GET YOUR CAMERA AS CLOSE TO THE GROUND AS POSIBLE,(IT MAKES THAT DEER OR ELK LOOK A LOT BIGER)ALSO IF YOUR IN THE PICTURE,GET BEHIND YOUR GAME IT WILL ALSO MAKE IT LOOK BIGER

A Few Other Tips, clean The Blood As Best You Can,in This Picture I Am Holding The Antlers Because I Am Hidding The Tag On The Antlers, see How The Other Guy Looks More Natural ,notice The Leafs In Front Of The Body To Cover The Paunch Area And Hide The Blood, and Alwaysput The Tung Back Inside The Mouth,i Could Also Have Improved These Pictures Byhidding The Tags On The Front Legs

Big Ben, your right about the pictures and hunting albums. I have logs for every day I spend outdoors, no matter if its scouting, hanging stands, fishing, whatever I log it, what the weather was, what was done, who I was with (usually me and my dog), what I saw, caught, or shot. Since the advent of the computer (yup I am that old) its alot easier, and nicer to add pics to the stories. They will make for good reading, n renewing memories in the future.
