Time is winding down and officially in full bait mode. Going in every 2 to 3 days. Certainly are some bears that have us excited. They sure are putting on the weight already for winter.
Please BEAR with me, 2024 is going to be full of unBEARable surprises!!!

Yesterday, got the bear skulls out from the spring and let them sit in hot water all day long. Came home from work and both of the bottom jaws were split in half (is this normal?) and pretty much all cartilage/meat had worked its way off. Was able to pull all the teeth really easily and took the pressure washer to the skulls and got them cleaned up pretty good. Had to use a needle nose to work into some tight spots as well as a strand of wire. Got them soaking in a 50/50 solution of salon care 40 today and will pull them out tonight and share the results. My first time taking care of a skull.

Just need to reassemble them. Lots of teeth to glue back in.

With the skulls fully dried now, I stopped by a taxidermist that does scoring officially to check out my skull. 19 7/8" :*(

Put 160 gallons of bait out the last 4 days and hiked 13.5 miles in doing so. Pretty good warm up for elk hunting next week!
There is no doubt that this bear is the best, only problem is he is pretty smart and barely visits with daylight. If I had to guess I'd say 400+ with probably a 19" skull

Heading up tonight for our first sit! They haven't been fed in 3 days and keep showing up looking for bait. Hopefully some new scent in the area from fresh goodies this afternoon when we walk in will bring them right on in!
