Pause on Federal Grants - MD25-13

He hasn't been in office 30 days...Let's let this play out a little before we start screaming the sky is falling.
Haven't you been paying attention. This funding freeze will mean no more US trained Dr's and engineers. Forest fires will burn unabated across the landscape. No one will be performing BLM turtle studies. Won't you please think about the turtles?

All I want is for the Government to follow the process laid out in the Constitution. It will be slow, but it needs to be slow.
Government was designed to be slow.

Challenging the authority of the judicial branch to override the executive branch is completely idiotic. Just because one doesn’t like the results doesn’t mean it’s unconstitutional.

Elon is a moron.

You sure about that?

I was pretty positive I'd never draw a Montana bighorn license.

I was glad to be wrong about that.

Even if you don't believe me, I will be more than happy for you to tell me, " I f-ing told you so" if we save money and divert part of the savings to increasing conservation efforts.

NIH, USDA, NSF, EPA... This will translate to fewer grad students, fewer engineers, fewer water quality experts, doctors, etc. All this in an era where we are complaining that we aren't training enough professionals when compared to China and India.
Really? The private sector doesn't hire engineers, science SMEs, and doctors? Having been in the private sector (engineering), all I can say is that the company I worked for, and several others in the same industry, have been been screaming for more engineers over the last 10+ yrs. Companies were engaged in talent wars trying to lure what few capable engineers there were to come and work for them or going out and outright poaching them from each other. Sorry, I don't buy that lack of USG-funded grants is what has caused a lack of professionals coming out of the higher education system.

Ya got me there.

Cant hunt em, so we shouldn't care about them. I forgot.

The private sector certainly hires them, but it doesn't train them.

My experience is that more and more positions are being filled by foreign trained scientists. One thing they tend to have in common is government funded education.

We all share in the good times and in the bad. Those just dont always occur at the same time for all of us. I am confident those among us that are hoping for pain for our fellow Americans will be pleased with the outcome. Equally as confident the good time will also be shared by all.
Just like a good parent that lets their child experience that actions have consequences, I just hope the FO portion of FAFO is a learning experience for this country and not a life-threatening one. One thing I can assure you and the rest of the people cheering this insanity, Elon and Bezos and Zuck will not be sharing equally in the pain with the people that actually voted Trump into office.

Can’t be many sea turtles left on BLM land, I’m surprised they aren’t on the endangered list already.
Well...actually:

The BLM Eastern States manages public lands stretching from southern Florida to islands in the rivers and lakes of Wisconsin and Minnesota. Many of these lands are home to a variety of species that are as diverse as the landscapes that make up the mosaic of public lands in the east. We manage habitat for a variety of species including deer, moose and wolves; as well as red-cockaded woodpeckers, bald eagles, osprey and sea turtles.

Well, I gotta admit- you got me there🤷. Interesting.
I don't think its a gotcha, I just think we don't realize what exactly our tax dollars pay for and the good things they do.

IMO, that's been a failure of the US Government as a whole, all we ever hear about is the bad (and bald faced lies like 50 million in condoms).

We don't hear much, if anything, about the good things our tax dollars support. Like I already said, something as simple as the Interstate/Highways we all enjoy traveling down. If something that simple is overlooked, how do you suppose controlling noxious weeds, or managing Endangered Species, Migratory Waterfowl, Anadromous fish, fighting forest fires is viewed?

I doubt the average American knows their tax dollars support any of that.

Looks like some pain being felt.

FAFO

I tend to disagree that the sharing of good times and bad times are in equal proportion for anybody.
I read the article. Sure seems like their problems have been growing for quite some time.

The Tengiz oil field project was started in 2012 and has suffered delays since day 1. Now they are hoping to complete a major expansion set to close in June of this year. If anything, they will get pushback from OPEC since Kazakhstan has consistently exceeded its quota set by OPEC. The planned expansion will only increase their production levels. Not sure how that can be tied to the current admin.

They are also tied up in a legal battle over acquisition of Hess that was started in October of 2023 which is also impacting their bottom line. This is just part of a larger O&G consolidation that has been going on for several years forcing the industry to focus on mergers and operational efficiency gains rather than drilling new wells if the article is correct. Not sure how that can be tied to the current admin. If you believe the article, their decline of O&G reserves may be tied to the previous administration if they were banking on continued land-lease sales in the US or the lack of US activity is what forced them overseas.
