I am happy to get this bull on a Montana "Back Country" hunt 2 and a half hours after the season opened. He was an OLD Bull! I'm thinking 15-16 years old. He had NO teeth on his upper jaw (Ivories were still "decent shape"), only had his front 6 teeth on his lower jaw AND I dulled 7 knives just cutting the meat off the bone!! Yes! He is 255 pounds of hamburger!! He had very little body fat. He was not going to make it thru another winter. I am sure he lived a very good life and I am glad to think he will not suffer another Montana Winter! He still had velvet on his antlers from malnutrition of not having teeth for proper/healthy digestion. His right Antler was damaged and had a "Trunk" growing out of his head and affected his eyesight. I cow called this fella in. Made me feel good to be able to cow call this old fella in. Figured, being that old, he knows what a cow sounds like and he came in on my calls!
I was fortunate to share this hunt with a long time friend. It only took 25 years to get him to come hunting with me in Montana. I think he might come again... Hopefully sooner!
I am still trying to wrap my mind around the "llama thing". It's been mentioned to me before... I'm old fashioned. I strap my gear on the back of a donkey and throw my leg over a horse! lol!
