Finite in the alcohol industry ....is as in there are no more once the limit is established. If you want an outfitter license with a guaranteed NR Combo tag, maybe two, then go find an outfitter willing to sell theirs because there aren't anymore available. Imagine the consolidation that would occur in the outfitter industry. I think taking the alcohol license approach makes lots of sense.
You are 100% spot on!

If it's making a living and paying the bills which seems to be 1 of the 3 or 4 arguments depending which degree of the circle we are on. Why not just raise your rates to make up for the lost clients? Seems both Eric and Shooter have clients lined up for several years so guessing the $$ isn't the issue for the clients that choose to use your services.

I have absolutely nothing against outfitters plan on using one when I come chase lions in a few years, just rubs me the wrong way to think you are entitled to tags. I have said before after how this got back doored the outfitters have no other argument other than sheer greed and sense of entitlement.

The ramifications will be felt for a long time after this one boys.

Ranchers/Farmers are not the enemy of hunters. Lot's of posts about how much someone makes and the land that they own. I guess we should go with socialism and communism then, everybody gets a trophy and we all have the same pain. Do I wish I had a big ranch, sure, but do I begrudge those that do, not a bit.

I don't agree that outfitters clients should get in front of everyone else in the line for tags, I am one of the ones in line also. But I keep saying it, if it were not for the ranchers/farmers and outfitters in Eastern Montana there would be no deer left. The only conversation that is occurring is self management on private property.

Also, I'm guessing you guys don't buy groceries at the store, all mountain men that don't eat anything they don't grow or harvest. If leasing out their land to an outfitter helps ranchers/farmers pay the bills so be it, its better than it all going to the same people and keep the ranches/farms in the family it started with. Farming and ranching isn't as easy as some would think and the margins are thin.

As for subsidies, how about the banks, auto makers and airlines. I'm guessing your just as pissed at them for taking subsidies and don't bank, walk everywhere and never fly anywhere to vacation. It's kind of like the tree hugger who lives in a stick built house or a climate warrior who drives to the protest.

What you just witnessed with the bill going through the legislature is how politics works these days. Not just in Montana, across every state and Washington DC. Lots of back room dirty deals, insincere politicians and basic fraud. Follow the money and you will see how things happen behind closed doors. Politicians sign up with the party and not for the people. If you don't vote party lines, you will not be funded in the next election and your own party will support other candidates. The politicians are not voting the way they want, they are voting the way they are told. It's the folks behind the screen pulling the levers that you should be worried about.

How about all the folks who are staying on unemployment right now instead of working, because it is a better deal. You should be more pissed at that those folks than you are at the outfitters. The outfitters are working, the others are just spending your money.

What I think is happening in the hunting world is that everyone is seeing their opportunities diminish, just like this set aside and are pissed about it. Lots to be pissed about in the world today, honestly. But it is going to come down to supply and demand and the demand isn't going away. Non residents are going to lose opportunity every year in some state for the next few years as it seems we are in the screw the non residents phase in several states.

Very well said....no matter which side of the fence anyone is on. Well done!

Again as pointed out by several people you are comparing subsidies to areas that are not using a public trust for their financial gain to one that is.

If I chose not to use a bank and put my money under my bed I don't lose my money. If I chose to walk to a destination I can still go, someone who pays to fly doesn't get anymore of a guarantee than me.

Unless you have the means or want to pay for an outfitter than they will guarantee you a tag or make it so you get put at the front of the line while. And if you fail to draw they will just pay to have a law past to allow unlimited tags right?

Seems odd coming from someone that does work for the government. Just saying,
Doesn't seem odd at all. I imagine a lot of people dedicated to public service have a strong desire to maintain equity in the allocation of public resources. Dont confuse politicians (i.e., slimy ones that pull last minute back room deals) and their mismanagement with the millions of public servants who protect our borders, fight overseas to protect our country, or any other countless things we depend on.
