SB 143 is on the agenda for the Senate floor tomorrow, Monday, Feb. 15 at 1 p.m. Should be an interesting debate.

Above is the link to the petition circulating against SB 143. I thought I would share it again to put it in front of more eyes. From what I’ve read, the rapid response against the proposed bear hunting ban in CA helped kill it immediately. This petition is just one more way of making our voice heard. Pass it on to your buddies.

Is that event televised/online?
Yes.

One of my main takeaways after catching up on this thread tonight..... It’s a damn good thing that the MOGA Application process does not include a math test.

The funniest part was when the MOGA guy inferred that somehow the preference point system was too complicated for the people who want to use outfitters to figure out.

So the people who have ~$8000 to burn on tags and an outfitter aren’t smart enough to buy preference points two years in a row.🙄

Is there any way to contribute to that Nick?

Keep sending in emails & phone calls.

Hammer them. They hate it, but this is about ensuring the senate understands what they're going to do if they vote to advance this bill.

If a politician tells you that they would have voted no on the bill if it weren't for all the emails, they're not being honest. They were always going to vote for it. They're just pissed people are watching.

And they are pissed at the rapidly changing process by which people engage in Government. They are accustomed to the backroom trading of political chips. It is how they got their primary votes. It is how they garnered support for their general election endorsements.

Now, along comes a different way of engagement for us deplorables who actually have to work for a living and can't take days of paid time off to go to state Capitols two days each week. This has them really pissed and they are now proclaiming they are taking objection to the wave of comments, labeling it "Georgia-style politics," whatever the hell that means.

This digital response is a change to business as usual. Keep at it. They are not prepared for this new change, nor are the groups who try to use the old process to bludgeon the unwashed masses.

I think the next two days will be very interesting on this bill and a few others. Thanks to all who continue to be engaged.

What? Holding public office actually comes with public accountability from constituents? What a novel idea.😅
That is one thing that really pissed me off, listening to the committee hearing. They sounded annoyed that they received so many comments. Seems like it almost had the opposite effect. Makes you wonder, what's the point sometimes.

That’s the impression I got from Hinebauch.
People are just supposed to vote and let them make all the decisions I guess.

For those who want to watch the floor debate, go to the first link and click on "Watch and Listen," then go to the Senate floor session. And to be more engaged, here's the MWF Legislative Action Team toolkit link.

It seems to me that the outfitters haven’t planned adequately for the change from the times when we had leftover tags to now when they are coveted. Instead of filling a pipeline years deep like outfitters do in other states, they want to steal opportunity from the unguided community. To sweeten the deal, they are willing to stick it to their clients even more by the fees tacked on to appeal to Montana residents. I hope that they are able to survive this transition along with the new COVID challenges, but would rather they not do it at my involuntary expense.

I have thought to take at least one outfitted trip to see the Chinese Wall and hunt the Bob, but I’ll gladly swap that to a Wyoming wildness hunt if my feeling slighted doesn’t abate by that the time I take that trip.

I did appreciate the Podcast fairness (although I’ve only made it through half of it so far) which is uncommon these days. The honest, fair debate was refreshing even though I found myself spewing profanity at my radio during parts. I even went to the sb143facts.com website, but it hasn’t been able to change my mind.

Does SB143 still include a provision capping access agreements to 15k? I thought that was in a previous version, but there has been so much activity in MT legislature lately I've not kept track.

Yes, that appears to remain in the bill.
