Jacobsen's amendment passed - so there will be no outfitter guarantee? Just an early draw at higher price...maybe a bit like WY 'Special' Tags?

Montana Senators to the DYI hunter, "You don't spend enough to matter, hunting here should be a rich man's sport only."

Edited: Wait a minute, what just happened to the bill? The funding streams changed and now its a higher priced early draw?

No expert on it but I would think with guaranteed tags and the rate at which western hunting is growing, it would affect any new agreements. Outfitter comes in with their "welfare" money and offer $17k be foolish to sign for any BLM agreement.
Thats my concern...capping the gov to 15k opens the door to outfitters knowing that's the max the state can bid, no matter how big or great the property is for DIY resident and non-resident hunters.

Anyone know if the amendment was intended to be a poison pill by hoping the sponsor would pull it or ask that it be voted down?

Pretty much.

Basically all it does now is create an earlier draw for those that want to pay more for the tags. I'm fine with that.

Every senator supporting the bill noted and bitched about the thousands of emails and calls they received, specifically from out of state. I say good job everyone.
Wait until those same folks, resident and NR alike, start sending their money to fund primary or general election challenges or ballot initiatives.

27 to 23. Passed second reading. I listened in interesting to hear the same garbage how this helps. Really liked fence analogy with limit on how much fence can be built. Wear your state shirt with a hunter hat in restraunts, hotels and gas stations. I wish there was a study that wouldn't put non residents in outfitter pool to see the ripple effect nr diy hunters have on the economy.
