No detachable magazines on automatics....Here we go again...

Passed both houses and is headed to the Governor's desk for signature.
Not true, many amendments and it is now on the way to the house after passing the senate this morning - not the Governor. The main amendment really put a big dent on the purpose of the bill which was to basically outlaw all semi-automatic weapons.

Correct. The bill has changed dramatically with those amendments. I still oppose it but on different grounds. It now falls into the realm of FOID laws that have also been challenged in other states. Levying additional requirements on an individual to practice their constitutional rights. Reminiscent of reading tests or poll taxes used to prevent black Americans from exercising their right to vote in the Jim Crow era.

I totally agree. The compromise that the republican lawmakers put forth with that amendment I thought was very smart because even if this gets signed into law, the judiciary branch would likely be seeing it to rule it unconstitutional.

I had to take a class and register with the sheriff to get my CC license. Not much difference that I can see.

Hunter safety is a very good basic gun safety course, and if some people have an IQ too low to pass the test or if they aren't comfortable going to the sheriff for a background check, well, maybe I'm ok with them not having a semi auto handgun. IQ much below 80 often is more impulsive, hard to tell right from wrong.

I'd hope the additional 4 hour requirement is similar to Hunter Safety in that the fee is minimal.

Yeah, the class will keep the bad black guns out of criminals' hands, just like concealed carry permits keep them from carrying unlawfully...

I can see how you might think this at first but I would highlight some significant differences between FOID laws and concealed carry requirements.

Firearms ownership is a constitutional right, with some limitations. That has been upheld by the highest court. Concealed carry is not a constitutional right in Colorado. Therefore concealed carry is a privilege and with that carries far more restrictions and requirements.

Background checks already exist under current law, mandatory for all gun purchases in Colorado. No reason to have a Sheriff do another one.

Should a citizen have to pass an IQ test, safety class, and pay a fee to practice free speech, religion, or vote? I doubt any Denver/Boulder Democrat would support that. Their hypocrisy is unending.

With that sort of answer I am not sure you could pass an IQ requirement.

Sorry but the class is nothing more than a barrier to your natural rights.

Answer this, WY there is no need to have a concealed carry permit. If you legally can have a gun, then you can legally carry concealed. Do you feel WY is inherently less safe because of that?

Sorry it will do nothing g to prevent or curb the issue. It will only make it harder for law abiding citizens to function.
