I have a hunt scheduled in the Deer lake/Southwest Pond area in Late September 2026. This is my first Moose hunt and I am looking for any advice really. My brother has been with this guide several times and has his ideas about what works and what does not. I am interested in hearing about what type of clothing to bring. I have looked at historical weather to get an idea of temps and how much rain it gets and it is sort of hit and miss. I have gear for deer hunting in Michigan and Kentucky, but we don't get a lot of rain or wetness during our seasons, so it may not be the best. As far as meat goes, the plan was for my brother to drive the RV up and trailer some freezers and generator. Last time he had his meat shipped and it was pretty pricey. This way, we can bone it out, cut it, pack it and freeze it for the return trip to SE Michigan. He said you can bring the meat back yourself, just not the bones outside of the skull and antlers. This is all new to me, so I figured I would ask people who have been there. We are both gunsmiths, so the rifle and that sort of gear is a no brainer and nothing to worry about.I did it from Florida , flew to Deer Lake . Had my moose processed ($650-ish) and shipped to Florida (900-ish) , I can come up with the exact amounts later if you want .
The only drawback is the shipper only ships once , at the end of the season , second week of December .
So far I'm happy with the way my meat was processed , first package of tenderloins had a hair , (that was our fault I think ) but other than that no trouble .
And moose is excellent table fare , IMO .
So yes , IMO , go for .
