Newfoundland Moose

I did it from Florida , flew to Deer Lake . Had my moose processed ($650-ish) and shipped to Florida (900-ish) , I can come up with the exact amounts later if you want .
The only drawback is the shipper only ships once , at the end of the season , second week of December .
So far I'm happy with the way my meat was processed , first package of tenderloins had a hair , (that was our fault I think ) but other than that no trouble .
And moose is excellent table fare , IMO .
So yes , IMO , go for .
I have a hunt scheduled in the Deer lake/Southwest Pond area in Late September 2026. This is my first Moose hunt and I am looking for any advice really. My brother has been with this guide several times and has his ideas about what works and what does not. I am interested in hearing about what type of clothing to bring. I have looked at historical weather to get an idea of temps and how much rain it gets and it is sort of hit and miss. I have gear for deer hunting in Michigan and Kentucky, but we don't get a lot of rain or wetness during our seasons, so it may not be the best. As far as meat goes, the plan was for my brother to drive the RV up and trailer some freezers and generator. Last time he had his meat shipped and it was pretty pricey. This way, we can bone it out, cut it, pack it and freeze it for the return trip to SE Michigan. He said you can bring the meat back yourself, just not the bones outside of the skull and antlers. This is all new to me, so I figured I would ask people who have been there. We are both gunsmiths, so the rifle and that sort of gear is a no brainer and nothing to worry about.

As far as gear layers is your best bet , but the weather was similar to Michigan at that time . You might be setting and calling , then have to hustle to get in front of a moose . I had misty days but no rain , although everything is wet , or so it seemed . I wore my Schnees with gaiters and never got wet feet , but most wore the knee high rubber boots .
Several of the guys in my camp drove and took their meat home with them so I know it can be done .
I'd have some good rain gear , just in case . Oh , and get the either sex tag , same price , just in case you don't see a bull .

I was thinking either sex is fine with me, I hunt to fill the freezer, a bull rack is just a bonus. I have walked in my knee high rubber boots, not something I really like to do as they suck for walking more than a couple hundred yards. So have been looking at options. My brother said it was pretty boggy around that area, so I suppose something close to the rubber boots would be a good idea. Appreciate the advice.

I did a combo moose/caribou hunt in Newfoundland in September of 2019. We drove to camp from
Gander, and the camp was along a new high voltage cross country power line. We basically road hunted off an ATV. We didn't see any caribou, and the 3 bull moose that we saw had smaller antlers than the 2 Shiras moose that I had killed in Montana, so I only came home with tag soup.
