New Zealand Stag Hunt

Can a visitor borrow a rifle?
Yes you can.

It’s my understanding that anyone without a firearms permit (NZ’er or not) can hunt with a NZ’er and use their rifle but under direct supervision.

If you’re a NR you can get a visitors firearm permit and use a locals rifle without supervision.

On my way;)

You can borrow a rifle. I've done it twice and I'm doing it again in a month. Best way to hunt NZ is to make a friend and just go hunt unless you want to kill a giant stag then you need a guide to hunt private.
Thanks and good luck on your hunt next month.
I can shoot a big stag where I am;)
I would probably just end up fly fishing(y)

Just got back from a 5 day scouting / velvet stag hunt. No shooter stags seen but did shoot a fallow for meat and to remove her from the area as they can chase the red stags out apparently.

Was in an area close to the original report posted. Saw 40 deer, 1 chamois and 8 pigs on the first day and then gave up counting.
