Bringing a gun into NZ is a pain, even for residents! Best to avoid bring a gun if possible but of course it can be done, it just requires paperwork and a lot of patience!

Can a visitor borrow a rifle?

Yes you can.

It’s my understanding that anyone without a firearms permit (NZ’er or not) can hunt with a NZ’er and use their rifle but under direct supervision.

If you’re a NR you can get a visitors firearm permit and use a locals rifle without supervision.
